When I run across a problem w/my fridge, I look up the model on this website.(see below) I can then see full diagrams for all the systems of my fridge. I can see where they are and then look them up on the internet. Check out this link, it is for your fridge, I don't see a part referred to as the defrost timer.
When my defrost timer went out, I would hear a clicking/grinding sound from under the front of the fridge. (It sounded like one of those old fashioned timers for your lights when you go on vacation). My fridge would not cool because it was stuck on the off position. This timer just shuts the cooling function off so the defrost heater can warm up the freezer coils just enough to melt any accumulated ice/frost. It does this on a cycle of say, 20 min on cool, 10 min on defrost. My fridge was actually getting warmer inside the freezer, couldn't figure that out...
It turned out my timer was behind the front lower grill(which pops off) and mounted with 2 sheet metal screws right up on the right side of the frame. when I took mine out to check it, it rattled like there was something loose in there(not supposed to sound like that). It just unplugs. Here is a diagram of your fridge, call the parts place to ask where yours is located. I replaced mine and the fridge is up and running again.
