    2 year old satellite m115---replaced dead 6 cell battery with 8? 9?
cell because I thought it was battery problem. New battery never
charged, have been having problems with plug in back (wiggling). Now I
know it is much bigger deal, repair would cost probably be half the
cost of new laptop. Having ac plugs in rear is a very poor design. Also
I am on my 3rd power cord. Miss my laptop! -Lynn

Your thinking is correct wiggle the connector in the back where you plug in the ac adapter and see if the charge light goes off and on, then you have a defective dc jack and will stop working altogether shortly. What happens is that over time the connections come unsoldered or one of the legs breaks. It costs about $75.00 to replace.

Are you connect to pc or laptop? if to pc, you can try remove floppy drive ext casing and plug with ide cable  to motherboard and plug to power also. If not, you need to find converter for that. it is to difficult to find this converter as long today many people already dont use it. What ever, you can find it through online.

Dropped our Toshiba PA2611U external floppy

check all the cables. if you can open the case without breaking it, check all connections inside ensuring no broken visible links from the drive to the connections on the back. retry it in the computer after reassembling. IF it requires more than this effort it needs to be replaced.

After accessing drive its shuts down and restarts pc

You may have already tried one or more of these things, but in case you haven't...

Plug the drive into other USB ports on the computer and see if it shuts down. If not, you have a bad USB port, so just don't use it.
If it shuts down, continue to second test.

The second thing would be to eliminate the disk drive as a problem. Try plugging it in to another available computer and see if you get the same problem. If it's okay, it would be a safe assmption to eliminate the drive as being responsible.

Next, eliminate any USB hubs you may have plugged in. Plug the drive directly into the USB port on the computer and see what happens. If it works without problem, the hub is most likely the problem. If you still have the problem, follow next.

Next, I would try using one or more other USB peripherals and plug them in and try using them. If that causes the same issue, you probably have a power supply issue (even if everything is powered fine) as one of the power leads may not be putting out the required voltage. Last possibility could be a problem with your motherboard.

Good luck!

External drive shuts down the Toshiba 460CDX/2.1. OS is 2000. I do not have Admin rights to add Hardware, the Admin is no longer available. The CD writes does not write to a CD only plays CD's. I need to...

The external cd drive should be having both CD and DVD options, that is Combo Drive or Super CD Drive where you can write all your data on to the DVD - eitherway it can be done. You can copy the data from DVD / CD on to your toshiba laptop.

Best solution is replace the exisitng laptop to a latet one with Vista option. Will solve your probllm. Otherise try to contact the local authrozed hardware engineer to assist you in solving this problem.

Good Luck.

Compaq External Floppy Drive

External, parallel port based FDD's are just too darn old and uncommon, and there's no auto-detecting on these things. These things also come with their own power supplies - so make sure the power supply is plugged in or else it ain't gonna get no power - and then you'll need the drivers (which I doubt will be XP compatible).

A USB based external FDD would be a much easier solution!
