SOURCE: I have a Hampton Bay Fan:

You can use a plastic box provided it's listed for fan support. That is, the box can't provide the sole means of supporting the weight of the fan. There are a variety of suitable fan boxes and braces in both plastic and metal available, as well as information on properly installing a ceiling fan, at the big home improvement places. There are also many how-to sites with instructions and video on installing a fan so it meets the latest NEC requirements.

My Hampton Bay ceiling fan, vendor no. 445993, has two levels of lights. The top light will not turn off. Any suggestions?

Check the bulbs, if you put LED or low wattage bulbs in, the unit might not be seeing them.

Where can I find a remote control for this ceiling fan?

To select a proper universal remote control, you should know about the number of digits to its set-up codes. There are 3 digit, 4 digit, 5 digit, 2 digit and even single digit codes, to some brand devices. After confirming this, check the sites linked here. Both the sites have set-up code list and set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. Check which brand remote control has set-up code/s to your device brand, and buy that one according to availability.
Brand name of the remote control isn't a matter, but it should have set-up codes in its code list, to the device brand you have.
Please note: Every new universal remote control will have set-up code list, and set-up procedure along with its pack. Never accept a remote control, that hasn't both of this. For more details about the set-up codes, visit the site Check this site too. Universal remote controls are available at most of the electronic spare part selling shops.
Type in the "brand name only" of your device, in the search box [at the top right] of the display window and the Search will start at once as you type in, and will show you all the related posts. It will make surf easy.

What remote goes with ceiling fan model YG-241?

This is some kind of generic ceiling fan that used some kind of remote. Finding a replacement remote will be difficult to impossible. A more practical approach would be to replace the fan.

The receiver has burnt out on a four year old fan. i can't tell what model it is. Is it best to get a universal remote, a wall control or bypass it all. the switches seen ok. hunter five blade. power...

Hampton Bay makes fans for HomeDepot. I would check with them or call 1(800) 654-0688 to buy one from the fan manufacturer. You need to find the UPC number which is located on a label on the top of the fan(body). I had a hard time making the numbers, but gat a camera and took a close up picture. The HomeDepot will help you find out the maker of your fan.(they have many makers so it is important to have the UPC no.)

Lights aren't working normally

Most likely, there is a dimmer selection switch on the remote controller to dim the lights. The wall switch has no effect on the brightness.

No connection between the fan remote and Ceiling fan

The remote-controlled fans that I've seen all have DIP switches in the transmitter (the "remote") and receiver (up by the fan). For the remote to operate the fan, both sets of switches have to be set to the same code. If you happened to bump the DIP switches (and change the code) while replacing the battery, the fan would no longer respond to the remote.

It's been four months since you posted this problem, so you've probably figured that out by now. Still, other users may run into the same problem occasionally.
