SOURCE: Ice and Refrigerator and Freezer smell like alcohol chemical

All items stored in the refrigerator and freezer should be stored in sealed packaging. Frost free refrigerator operate with a very low humidity and will pick up odors from products. Somewhat of an ozone smell will be in some frozen foods. This is a normal condition. Deodorizing packs are available on the market to absorb odors. Baking soda does the job in most cases.

SOURCE: refrigerator not cooling

see if the compressor motor is running

The compressor is a football-sized case with no apparent moving parts. It's on the outside of the refrigerator at the back near the bottom. If it is humming or making a continuous noise and your refrigerator is still not cooling, there may be a more serious problem with one or more of several different components, we recommend contacting a qualified appliance repair technician for further help.

If the compressor is not running but you do have power to the refrigerator, there may be a problem with one or more of these:

  • The compressor

  • The Thermostat

  • The overload, relay, or capacitor

  • The defrost timer

  • The condenser fan motor

SOURCE: Refrigerator freezing up and fan catching

From your information Bill it seems the defrost system has failed. There are several componants that could cause this. First check the defrost heater which is located on the evaporator. You will need to pull the plug and let the ice melt completely first. Store your perishables elsewhere.

With an ohmmeter, check for continuity across the defrost heater. With all due respect, if this is confusing you need to call a service tech. If you have continuity across the heater, check the defrost thermostat which is a round disc fastened to the evaporator.

Finally, look for the defrost relay. It should be found somewhere on the lower rear of the refrigerator. Check for power to the relay, and on the outlet side. A wiring diagram located on the back of the unit will help you find the correct wires. All of these parts should be available from your local refrigerator parts supply, or check with Samsung online to order. Be advised Bill that this is not a simple repair, but if you have some electrical understanding, you can do it.

Evaporator fan is running but refrigerator side still not cool

Possibly blocked vent between fridge and freezer. could be ice or frozen food that has gotten in vent, blocking air flow. Also you say the fan is running but can you SEE IT? I have had occasion where the MOTOR is running but the fan blade is loose on the motor shaft. especially top freezer models.

My Samsun RS2534ww side by side refridgerator will not maintain temperature on the fridge side. It consistantly warms up to between 50 and 60 degrees despite resetting the thermostat.

First thing to try is Powering off the FF at the mains supply and leaving it standing for 30 minutes. Make sure that you do not open any of the doors or touch any of the controls during this time. Then reconnect the power and wait for 30 to 60 minutes to see if the fault remains or is cured. Try defrosting the FF as despite common belief these units are not totally frost free.

In side by sides if the freezer side is working OK and the fridge side is not working correctly it means that air ducting has iced up or the air vent from the freezing unit to the fridge compartment has stuck in the closed or partially closed position which causes the fridge to not be any where near as cool as it should be. If it is too cold then the vent is stuck in the open position and the fridge temperature will continue to fall and become the same as the freezer, thereby freezing the contents of the fridge compartment. It can also get stuck in another position so that if the temperature is adjusted on the front panel then nothing happens to the temperature in the fridge compartment. The vent, which is usually at the top of the fridge compartment on the side where it joins the freezer compartment, is controlled by a small sync motor and either the motor has become faulty, the control module is faulty or the vent is iced up. It can be come iced up by putting too many hot items in the fridge so the steam condenses and freezes the vent in position and then the motor cannot open or close it causing it and / or the control module to become faulty. Other times it is just old age that causes the motor and / or the control module to fail. If the sync motor and vent are working OK then there may be a fault with the fridge temperature sensor or main on board controller that will mean that the sensor or the controller will need replacing.

Fridge does not keep cold, but freezer is over freezing, icemaker not making ice also.

You should be able hear, and feel the air from, a running fan inside the cabinet, in either side. The common arrangement is having the coils located (behind the wall) in the freezer section and then the fan moves a controlled amount of the frigid air to the refrigerator section via openings located in the rear of the compartment. The vents are normally adjustable so the temperature can be balanced between the two compartments.  If there is no noticeable air coming from this vent, then the fan has died.

I have an Amanda side by side, the fridge temp

Look in the freezer side for a ice buildup on the back wall.
Ice= defrost parts issue.
Check the fan in the freezer. Is it running?
Not running? Could be a defrost thermostat issue or a bad fan motor.

Freezer side wont freeze

Then reconnect the power and wait for 30 to 60 minutes to see if the fault remains or is cured. Try completely defrosting the FF as despite common belief these units are not totally frost free.

If the Freezer and the Fridge are not cooling enough then check that the condenser is not iced up and that the fan is running correctly. These are located behind a panel in the lower half of the freezer at the rear and can be accessed from inside the freezer compartment.

In side by sides if the freezer side is working OK and the fridge side is not working correctly it means that air ducting from the condenser has iced up or the air vent from the freezing unit to the fridge compartment has stuck in the closed or partially closed position which causes the fridge to not be any where near as cool as it should be. If it is too cold then the vent is stuck in the open position and the fridge temperature will continue to fall and become the same as the freezer, thereby freezing the contents of the fridge compartment.
