Picture, but sound cuts off at times (by 2 users)

I have a Sanyo 24" TV. While using the Magnavox DVD player...which we've used for a year with no problem, the sound will intermittantly cut off. If we turn the TV off and immediately turn it back on, it works fine for a few minutes, then loses sound again. Any suggestions?

The sound on my 20" Sanyo TV is not working. The TV is 17 years old, and the picture is fine, but the sound is sometimes working and sometimes not. I don't know if I should scrap it or try and have it fixed.
