Hi.. Need help to clean up your lens., Ok first try with a cd cleaner
you can buy in a dollar store then insert the cd in the dvd try the unit., if it dont work, look carefully on the side and at the back., Take off the screw two on each side and three at the back... then remove cover.. Now if you look carefully you will see a metal plate with a plastic ring in the middle, take off the two screw on each side then remove the plate, then you will see you laser lens. take a Q-tip with lens cleaner you cant buy at radio shack, then clean the lent ...But Careful Make sure your DVD is unplug from the wall Because the laser lens may damage your eyes if you point accidentally the lens in your eyes, then put back the plate and screw and cover.. Then try your DVD

Is your DVD player malfunctioning? If you're getting a no-disc error, you may need to clean the DVD player's laser pickup. The laser pickup is what reads DVD's and allows you to view them on your TV. If you need to clean the laser pickup lens on a DVD player, follow these simple steps.
Difficulty: Moderate Instructions things you'll need:

  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • DVD lens cleaner
    • 1 Make sure the laser pickup lens is actually the problem. There are a wide variety of reasons that a DVD player might not read a disc efficiently. The disc could be scratched or dirty, for example. Test the DVD player with a disc that you know works before trying to clean the lens.
    • 2 Purchase or borrow a lens cleaner disc and try it first. You can find these things really cheap at any large department store. They usually get the job done well. However, you may need to clean the lens manually if the store-bought cleaner fails.
    • 3 Remove the outer casing of the DVD player. Remove the screws that mount the top casing onto the bottom of the DVD player and slide the top casing off. This will expose the DVD deck, which houses the laser pickup lens.
    • 4 Find the lens. The lens will be glass and under the DVD clamp. The lens will probably have a blue tint to it. If you are having trouble finding the lens, you could shine a light on the components and watch for the reflection.
    • 5 Use a cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol to gently wipe the lens. Just a quick scrub will do. Dry the laser pickup lens with the other end of the swab.
    • 6 Give the lens a few seconds to dry and replace the covering of the DVD player. Test the efficiency of the player. If necessary, repeat the process.

My dvd player is saying it cannot read the disc?

the lens in the dvd drive is most likely dirty, try a DVD lens cleaner or clean the lens yourself. Note that taking the dvd player apart to clean it will void the warranty.

Here is a video on the cleaning with a qtip - and alcohol, I've personally just used water / wet qtip to clean the lens.

.

use the other side of the qtip(wet) to clean the lens, and the other end(dry) to dry it.

if this doesn't solve the problem try a few other discs, if the problem remains the dvd player will need repair. the laser lens possibly has more difficult issues or something else in the player is failing.

I hav lg dvd writer it plays cd but dvd what to do

That is because of a dirty or defective lens. When you have a lens problem the unit may still play CD but not DVDs.

Try first using a lens cleaner disk, like the ones here.

If that does not work, the unit must be disassembled, and lense cleaned with q tips and isopropyl alcohol or cleaning solution. See below:

Unit plays DVD but no longer Blu Rays

That is because of a dirty or defective lens. When lens is dirty, the unit may still operate on regular CDs and DVDs and not be reading BD.

Try first using a lens cleaner for Blue Ray: Maxell 190054 Blu-Ray Lens Cleaner

If that does not work, the unit may be disassembled, and lense cleaned with q tips and isopropyl alcohol or cleaning solution. See below:

Being this a blue ray unit , I would suggest calling support instead of disassembling the unit by yourself.
