They are two totally different things.the wiper fluid only cleans the windshield, the radiator fluid/coolant is for keeping the engine cool,
please do not mix them up as considerable damage could occur.
the coolant bottle has a bigger (normally) metal cap about 2.1/2 across.with a seal around the inside edge, whereas the washer fluid cap just pops off to fill it.please check your handbook.

If it is a warning light for low coolant, its probably the sensor in the radiator or the overflow tank.

What would cause the engine coolant not to circulate thru the engine. the water gauge dont work and we have replaced the thermostat housing, thermostat, thermostat sensor, the bypass hose, and the water...

Did you purge the air from the system after you took it apart? Some cars have a vent on the top of the engine, you need to crack it open while filling the radiator, some have to parked on a slant or it won't vent, some need to have the coolant pumped in under pressure to get all the air out, the air creates a void and the water won't move, at all, it will over heat like crazy, drive you nuts in the meantime and you'll keep adding coolant and it won't do a thing. You will have to look this up on line, just Google, "ford escort radiator purge" and see what it says. Remember, some cars don't need it at all, It could be something else, but your symptoms sound familiar. Check it out, Hope this helps.

There is a humming noise that I only notice with acceleration and there my low coolant light is on, even though the fluids are fine(I checked in the back up tank and in the radiator cap) I dont understand...

The coolant sensor is most likely bad is the reason you getting the coolant light. It's located inside the overflow tank and it's job is to let you know when the coolant level is low., it's not a big deal just keep a check on the coolant level if you don't get it fixed ant time soon. The humming noise could be different things from a vacuum leak to a pulley issue or even a bad tire, this is a matter of getting someone to drive the car and notice where the humming could be coming from. Do you know if it's coming from the front or back, driver or pass side? Good Luck. Check out about the humming before the sensor.

What is the correct proceedure to re-fill radiator in 1998 ford escort?

Assuming you have a 3.8 (maybe a 3.0), it's pretty simple. In the 90s, Ford had no bleeders in the cooling system wo check it out. Go to Autozone, and get the pre-mixed 50/50 coolant. A V-6 should hold little more than 1.5 gallons. after you've secured the drain plug, start filling the system. If memory serves, the late 90s Fords had the fill at the resevoir/"recovery bottle". Just fill it slowly until it's at the "hot" fill. Put the cap on, and start the engine. come back around to under the hood and watch the tank. As it gets lower, add more coolant. You want to make sure you run it at least until the thermostat opens (when the upper hose is hot, it's open.) shut the engine off, and sssslllloooowwwwllllllyyyyyyy start to remove the radiator cap. DO NOT TAKE IT OFF COMPLETELY! This is an easy way to "burp" the system. Top off to "hot", only when you can safely remove the cap. Run the engine again, and repeat, as necessary. When you're done, make sure the system is topped off to the "hot" full line, NOT TO THE BRIM. My tick has always been to slowly work the radiator cap to let the air out, slowly. Bubbles are our enemy, so get rid of 'em.

Some techs like to take off the upper hose, and poor coolant directly into the radiator, but so long as the system's working properly, filling at the resevoir works just fine. Be careful when the engine gets to normal operating temperature! We're talking temps in excess of 200 degrees. Also, if you have to money, just replace the cap, now. A poor performing radiator cap reduces the performance of the cooling system, and on a Ford, heat is a bad thing.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

1989 Ford Escort GT overheating

Sounds like to me it would be your water pump before a heater core. When the water pump goes out, it stops pumping the coolant through the system which is what would cause it to still overheat even with the thermostat out. Change the water pump and you should be good. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for using FixYa!

Engine overheating

If the water pump is pumping you should be able to see moving water/engine coolant in the radiator when the radiator cap is removed and the thermostat is open.
Have you checked to see if your electric cooling fan is operating properly?
