Well, there is probably a reason that it was on the street. Was it sealed, probably not?... so, you brought RAM...well, most PC's will power on and Beep to tell you there is an Issue with the RAM. This sounds like there is a Motherboard or Power Supply issue. No point in investing in a Harddrive. Just put it back where u found it and return the RAM asap. Or get someone a Techie to test the Power Supply and the Mother board!

Caps lock flashes 45 times and shuts down

I would remove the power adapter, battery, hard drive and RAM. Plug the power adapter in and press power on. If it is still dead, suspect the GPU. If it goes to bios screen, remove the power, fit the RAM and plug the power adapter back in.Press power on . Repeat with hard drive and RAM if RAM on its own worked. You should be able to deduce the problem from there.

Remove thwe new RAM and hard drive. Does it boot to the BIOS menu? If yes, add the hard drive and do the same again then add RAM and do the same.
I suspect something does not fit in properly. Probably the RAM.
Don't forget to initialise the hard drive if trying to format it. The System disk should take care of that.

Single long beep - the RAM is no longer recognized as present. Try the ram stick in another pc, if it works there then the motherboard has died, you will have to replace it.

HP Pavillion dv6700 - black screen

Do the following without the battery inserted.

Let the computer sit with no battery for 24 hours. Do not put the battery in at all. Try using your original memory stick ONLY, with no hard drive and see if it will POST. If it does, insert the hard drive and try again. Could be the new memory...

Another thing you can try is reseating the processor. Turn the ZIF screw, take the processor out (WATCH THE PINS!!) and put back in GENTLY. Leave the memory in the computer, hard drive removed, try to power on.

These models have been known for bad motherboards. Contact HP and arrange to send it in. If you do enough digging on HPs website, you'll find the service advisory.

Dear there are three possibilities
1- Ram Problem

So change your ram or slot if problem will presist then you should change your Power Plug cable. Fix your power plug of your hard disk properly.

Most RAM today, is plug and play, would you know the specs of your motherboard?

Installing RAM, is something you should get someone at least semi experienced with Hardware to do, if you are then open your case, and you will notice 3/4 slots, one or more of these slots will be filled with RAM already, Providing you have enough empty slots for your new RAM, you can leave the existing ram installed or remove it - your call.

There are many helpful images here

It is basically inserting the RAM, the correct way around and clip it in. In the case of Installing another hard-drive or replacing your old HD, you will have several cables, The main ones are the power, and data pathing cable. Illustration here

Be careful not to disrupt any other devices/cables inside the machine and it should be good to go.
