Question about GE GSH22SGRSS Side by Side Refrigerator

Open Question

GE Profile refrigerator model PSC25PSSA leaking quite a lot of water inside freezer....freezes then melts by it self. Temperature in freezer rises to 11 degrees and then drops to -2 degrees over the course of about an hour. Had serviced twice but problem unsolved. Serviceman said over packed so I reduces amount in freezer to 50%. Another blamed water filter in fridge..I replaced. Two month left on extended warranty.

A refrigerator is only over packed if your food is blocking air vents or is obstructing door from closing properly. It is actually better to have them fuller as opposed to emptier, as the thermal inertia from the many cold food items, keeps the compartment cooler when the doors are open.

IN regards to the water leak, is it dripping from the door gasket at the bottom, which would happen if it was not cold enough? Is there a layer of ice on the freezer floor and nowhere else, which would happen if you had a clogged defrost drain, but that would not affect the temperature. Is there ice on any of the food in the freezer, as if it was dripping from the ice bucket or the ice maker? If you see this, have you ever noticed food freezing in the fridge near the bottom of refrigerated side, or that food is warmer at the top? This would indicate the freezer fan is not always blowing, or isnt blowing at all, and no air flow is created.

SOURCE: Freezer temp is rising to 12 degrees and doesn't reset

Most likely your computer board got zapped. It's usually located on the back of the unit. Have you tried to reset the unit by leaving it unplugged for about 20 minutes?

SOURCE: GE Profile Refrigerator (Model #20) w/freezer on the bottom

If the problem disappears (for a while) when the freezer reaches 32F, then I know what the problem is.

The GE Profile refrigerators (and likely other models as well) often don't defrost properly, especially in humid climates. So they can develop ice buildup internally, especially if the air vents at the back of the freezer are blocked by frozen food. Once that happens, that ice can interfere with the cold air circulation booster fan that runs when the freezer temperature is too warm. Then you get a LOUD buzzing noise from the fan blades, as they bang into the ice.

The immediate "solution" is to be sure nothing blocks the air vents, and then to melt the ice that interferes with the fan. You can turn the fridge off for a while (with the food removed so it doesn't spoil), and/or get a hair dryer and heat the inside back of the freezer, until the ice melts and falls away from the fan. (Just be careful not to block the nozzle of the hair dryer, or it may burn out from overheating!)

But the ultimate solution is to buy another refrigerator, one that is NOT a GE! And that makes me sad, because GE used to make GREAT refrigerators. My last GE refrigerator is nearly 20 years old, and still works well, and it does so QUIETLY.

SOURCE: Evap fan stops running/low cooling, Unplug Frig Evap fan runs

Is there anything obstructing the fan area, ice build up ? It is normal for your freezer to get warm if evap fan is not working, it is essential for it to work :) A defrost cycle should kick on a timer or as needed (adaptive) and there should not be excessive frost buildup that it blocks your evap fan. I would have suggested you unplug your refrigerator for about 10 minutes and see if that resets your control board - if not, then you will need service - either replacing motor assembly or a faulty control board.

Temperature rising in freezer and fridge motor running constantly

The temperature in the freezer will rise if there is no air circulation. Air circulation stops when the evaporator freezes solid. When this happens the thermostat cn not respond and the fridge keeps running.
Defrost the freezer and see if things return to normal. If they do then you have an auto defrost problem.
A technician can help you with this problem

What is causing the items in the vegetable bin to freeze and the ice maker is not working,(ice melted in the bin) and the water dispenser is not working and the filter was just replaced a week ago /

Sounds like the source of your refrigerator freezer temperature problem is due to a faulty evaporator fan motor. This fan circulates the air from the freezer to the refrigerator and back to the freezer. When it fails, temps are warm at the top, cold at the bottom, so the ice melts, and the water tank inside the fridge, near the bottom, freezes. I looked up your model #, but it shows no results so i cannot give you a part number.
Also, its possible if you have a control board microcomputer, its bad as well. Some model GE refrigerators the fan burns out part of the computer, necessitating replacing both.

Below the freezer coil is a drain trough. Sounds like it is frozen. Use a hair drier to melt it and poor baking soda with warm water down it.

Stops cooling ice melts and leaks water on the floor

That model refrigerator uses the mother control board for deciding when defrost is to take place. It has no defrost timer or Adaptive Defrost Control like other refrigerators. This sounds like *********** board part number WR55X10942 is malfunctioning. The board decides most functions of your refrigerator. Until the board is replace I do not believe the problem will resolve itself. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Ice melts water drips out of icemaker & freezes in a column

If your model is doing that I would consider looking at the defrost components. Look inside back of freezer for frost building a thin layer on the rear wall. If yes then unplug and remove the rear panel in back of freezer and defrost with a hair dryer. You have and air circulation problem or a defrost problem. Sounds like it's trying to defrost but we need to have a look at the evaporator coils in the rear behind that cover. First let me know what you find and we will go from there, Thanks Sea breeze
