Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked (with the computer and hard drive plugged in). I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.

You'll have to work your way through the various options but using the device manager menus and options, you need to give your drive a name or letter incator.
Avoid A:, B:, C:, D:, E:, F:, or G: depending on how many HDD and Disk drives you have.

1. Go to my computer and right click then click manage, go to disk management and see if your external harddisk is showed.If showed,then you can see the options there to manipulate your harddisk, either you format it or repartition.
2. You can use also a disk manager software to fully control the function.
