Do not know hoe to get into the dryer to replace the drum belt

unplug the dryer, open the door and take out the two phillips screws holding the door on and remove the other two screws opposite the door screws.remove the door and pull the front of dryer off.now remove the two top 5/16 inch screws and metal Lbrackets, down below them you'll see i think on the right side a screw that's in a hole or in a cutout, those screws are short and the one below it is a long screw on the bottom, don't take out anymore screws than that,on the other side the long screw is on top and the short screw is on the bottom and don't take out anymore screws than that or the bulkhead will separate on you,now pull the bulkhead off and you can replace the belt, when putting it back together just remember the short screws go into the cutout holes and the long screws go in the holes without the cutout.one more thing when you put the bulkhead back on make sure the felt isn't sticking out into the drum opening,if it is use a screw driver and push the felt in with it and push up at the same time and the felt will get pushed back up and behind the drum, run your finger around the drum and you'll be able to feel if the felt is sticking out

My dryer eats my clothes by twisting them up between the drum and door. is there an update to fix this?

the front of the drum rides on a felt pad. as the pad wears down it creates a gap for the clothes to get caught in. you just need to replace this felt. sometimes called front bearing sometimes called felt seal.

Access the drum to replace felt

To access the drum two screws need to be removed from the inside of the door. The screws are on top of the opening and hold the top of the dryer closed. Then you simply lift the top and slide it to the left to remove it, thus revealing full access to the top of the drum. Then two screws (left and right) need to be removed in order to remove the entire front of the dryer. Once the front is removed the drum can also be removed but for the purpose of replacing the felt removal of the drum is not neccessary. It should be noted that the felt sits only around the bottom of the drum and covers just over half of the circumferance of the drum. The felt should be position in around the opening of the inside part of the door. When replacing the front cover the drum will fit snuggly up against the felt. Replace screws, top and door screws and walla...fixed!

Zippers get caught in seal around dryer door and twist around and break off

I had the same problem with zippers and socks. Solution was as simple as replacing the felt seal at the top of the dryer door. The drum rides on the felt seal that has plastic guides imbedded in it. It's function is to seal and more importantly act as a guide for the drum.
Check the drum at the front edge if the gap around it is not the same or if the drum is wobbley when you lift it by hand that is probably the problem.
You will need to open the dryer cabinet. Mine had 2 catch springs at the front top edges that were released by pressing with a thin flat object that will fit between the top and bottom cabinet(butter knife). Once the top can be lifted you may find a couple of screws that secure the front panel and door. Once removed the front panel can be popped off and lifted out (careful of door switch wires). At this point you csn see the felt at the top of the door . It is glued in place and is easily removed. your local appliance part supplier can supply you with a replacement that comes with the glue and installation instructions.
Put the dryer back together and no more burnt socks and ruined zippers.

Front felt drum seal on ge came off---hard to repair?

Open the dryer door. At the top of the door opening, there should be two screws holding the top of the dryer down. Remove those screws and the top will rotate up, giving you access to the drum.

Felt belt, son pulled out from the front, inside of machine

the felt is attached to the front bulkhead to your dryer. in some cases, the dryer drum itself runs on that felt. other times, it is sitting just above the drum. if your drum actually rides on the felt, you will need to get it fixed because the glides will get worn and the drum will start to scrape on the front bulkhead. if you open the door and take out the 4 screws ( 2 on either side ) then you will be able to take off the front panel. once that is off, there is a 3/8 nut screw on either side ( on the top ) that hold the lid in place. remove those 2 screws and you can lift the top of the dryer. this will give you a better view of your dryer and the extent of the issue. Dryer

That is an accurate description
the drum of all dryers is suspended from a combination of
felt pads at the drum ends
nylon glides under the drum
rubber tired thrust rollers.
the rubber tires wear, and the drum shifts, this pinches and wears the felts, then there is enough space to pinch the clothes in the gap
It is a simple enough fix, and well worthwhile, felts glides and rollers are cheap in comparison to new dryers.
Generically all dryers are pretty much the same, so when you go to the parts store, the felts rollers and glides may be labelled whirlpool or kenmore
they will fit exactly, there are very few that fit very many models.

To do the job
  • UNPLUG DRYER
  • If a top mounted lint screen, remove lint screen and 2 screws under lint screen from top of case
  • with a putty knife or other blunt blade release spring clips at front corners of lid, retaining lid to front panel
  • tilt lid up
  • remove 1screw each side 1/3 way down front
  • disconnect door switch wires
  • remove front panel and door
  • pull tensioner to end of its travel against tensioner spring, and unhook belt
(Note:: position of belt around tensinoer and motor pulleys for reinstall)
  • pull drum out forwards
  • motor, pulleys, support rollers, felts, and glides can now be inspected
good roller
3d57115.jpg bad roller
7133e59.jpg rollers are in pairs, if one is worn replace both

Inspect felts and nylon glides where fitted, any wear - replace

to replace felts
requirements 2 or more pairs locking pliers(visegrips) hitemp silicone adhesive
  • pull old felt off
  • scrape off old adhesive
  • spread gllue on drum edge
  • secure felt on drum with visegrip
  • pull felt into place, clip with visegrip, pull again clip with visegrips, work around until felt is attached to drum and clipped in place
  • allow glue to set
nylon glides, if fitted replace easily, a central screw, or glue

reassemble in reverse order

Replace felt seal on gas dryer door

Yuck, nothing like replacing the felt, removers will only give you brain damage.I would find something hard plastic to scrap it off to prevent scraping of the finish. Dont give up a burn it off, I know from experience. Try the red plastic scrapers from Ace Hardware, there cheap by a dozen just in case the person who installed the felt had a seizure with the glue!

GE Commerical Dryer

First, UNPLUG the unit from the wall please. Next, open the door, and on the inside top of the door area in the cabinet, you will see either 2 or 4 screws holding down the top of the dryer. Remove these screws, then lift the top off. Now, looking down inside the cabinet, you will see as screw on either side, towards the top that holds the front onto the cabinet. Remove these two screws, then fold the front down towards you, and lift slightly to remove the front from the slats at the bottom. Use caution, because more than likely you will still have wires attached going to the thermostats, door switch, etc. Also be sure when replacing the felt, you use a lot of caution around metal edges. These things are razor sharp, and will put a deep cut on you in less than a second. Let me know if you need further help or information. Thanks and Good Luck!!!!
