  • Hello there,
  • The lid switch can be purchased from this web site and I do believe you can buy the switch separate from the entire harness but check with them as it is up to the individual retailer. This is the web site you need

How to remove washer lid to replace lid lock

Remove power to the unit.
Locate the console and remove two phillips head screws. Most
models have them in the front, bottom of the console. In some of the newer models they are located in the back, bottom of the console. Some washers require you to remove two end caps on the console to access the screws.
After you remove the two screws, slide the console slightly forward and then up. The console will then hinge to the back of the washer.
With the console now hinged back, locate the lid switch harness.
Disconnect the harness and check for resistance between the 2 grey wires (outside) on the lid switch connector connected to top of washer. With the lid down the circuit should read no resistance. If the circuit is open(infinite resistance) then the switch needs to be replaced. You can also use a insulated jumper on the lid switch harness to determine if its the switch.
To replace the lid switch you will now have to remove the cabinet. Use a flat head screwdriver to remove the two clips holding the back of the washer to the outer shell of the washer.
Disconnect the lid switch harness(If not still disconnected).

You can now pull the outer shell away from the washer. Do this by
grasping the outer shell (I open the lid and grab it there.) and tilt the shell forward (toward you) and out. The shell is now removed and you can see the tub. Be careful not to bend the outside walls of the shell when removing and setting aside. This will help greatly when reinstalling the shell. Remove the 2 screws attaching switch to cabinet. Remove the screw connecting the ground on the cabinet. Use a flat blade screwdriver to push tabs on lid switch connector block to remove. Finally remove the whole harness from the 2 remaining retainer clips under the cabinet. Install new lid switch harness assembly and reassemble washer.

Roper washer agitator won't spin after kids loaded

Hi,
It sounds like a someone has broke the lid switch to the washer. Below I have attached a picture, Item number 9 would be the part you seek. P# 3949247 Under the control panel you will find a harness that contains 3 wires coming out of the cabinet housing. The colors should be tan, white and green. If you jump the white and tan you unit should run and think the lid switch is working. Safety way is to unplug the unit to by-pass the switch and plug it back in and select spin only. This is only to test, you need a lid switch for safety. You should replace it ASAP if this test works for you.

I need to replace the switch that starts the drain/spin cycle on my Roper(Whirlpool) washer but how do you get the top panel off the unit?

I believe you're referring to the lid safety switch. Do not operate your machine without this safety switch! The switch / wiring harness are not very hard to install... here's how-

---UNPLUG THE WASHER FROM THE ELECTRICAL OUTLET---
1. Remove console, depending on vintage, there should be a couple of screws that will allow you to rotate the console up and back.
2. Remove 2 gold clips at rear of top. These clips are the only thing that retain the top / lid / cabinet
3. Unplug lid switch harness (small white connector at rear of top)
4. Rotate the cabinet up a few inches at the rear and pull it straight off. The top / lid / cabinet will come off as a single unit. The entire lid switch and harness are connected under the top w/ a couple of screws and a few spring retainers.
5. Buy replacement parts at a local appliance repair shop, including a new striker (the part that pushes the switch down when you close the lid).
6. Reinstall everything reverse from above. When you rotate the cabinet back on, make sure you have the front edge under the base channel and push inward on the rear corners to engage the cabinet on the rear base tabs.

Good luck.

I have a Roper washer modelRAS6233RQO the lid switch burned up and burned up the connector on the end of the wire, I ordered the switch but can't find the connector anywhere without buying the whole wiring...

Cut the wires back WELL FAR enough to be past all overheating damage, and splice in new wires of the same gauge. I suggest using heat shrink tubing, two layers, as insulation. these should be soldiered connections.

Roper spin cycle

The "tab" you are referring to is connected to the lid switch. Symptoms of a defective lid switch may include, filling and stopping on the intial fill cycle, a wash tub that will not drain, and stopping right after the wash cycle and not advancing to rinse or spin cycles.

The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3557193-replacing_a_lid_switch

On some models, the lid switch is located under the top casing by one of the lid hinges. You will know if you if you have this type of switch, because It does not have a lid strike and the small hole on the right hand side of the wash tub will not be present. This switch is actuated (toggled) by a rod on the lid hinge. With this type of switch, if you locate it and it can be toggled by hand, you may only need to adjust the actuator by bending it slightly.

NOTE: You do not have to drain or bail the water from the washer tub to perform this repair. Once a defective lid switch is replaced, the washer should drain normally.

A replacement lid switch (if required) can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The average price is about $20 - $30 if you perform the repair yourself. Prices differ between sites so shop and compare. If the model number you posted this question under is correct, the part number for a replacement switch is 3949247.

HINT: If you have determined the lid switch to be defective and would like to use the washer in the interim while awaiting parts, you can make yourself a by-pass plug by following these steps:

1. UNPLUG the washer.
2. Remove the lid switch by following the instructions in the link I provided.
3. With the lid switch in hand, cut the white plug off the end, leaving about two inches of wire.
4. Cut the center wire (ground wire - usually green or green/yellow in color) flush.
5. Take the remaining two wires (usually black or gray in color) and splice them together using a wire lug.

You have now made your yourself a by-pass plug that you can re-use if necessary. Take the by-pass plug and plug it in to the timer connector and the lid switch is now by-passed.

CAUTION: You will need to turn the timer off in order to stop the washer now. Only use this as a TEMPORARY repair until you can replace the lid switch.

If you have questions, or need additional assistance, please post back and let me know. The lid switch is a very simple repair that you can easily perform without the assistance of a repairman.

If this advice does not help you enough, repairclinic.com has a Repair Manual you can order to assist you with all your repairs. The part number is 1170635 and is priced at about $20. Searspartsdirect.com also has a repair manual for about the same price. Part number 4314044L. I hope this information is helpful.

Washer gets to spin cycle and stops. It appears

Hi, if this is a whirlpool model machine, you can't just remove the top. The whole cabinet needs to be removed. You can change the lid switch without removing the cabinet. Remove the two screws holding the lid switch. Pull the lid switch toward the middle of the opening and snip the wires. You can splice the new switch onto the old wires using wires nut connectors if you want. If you want to use the whole wire harnes that comes with new switch, remove the two screws that hold the control panel to the cabinet. now yuou can see the lid switch connection (easy plug in) located in the middle. Unplug the lid switch and force the connection downward. Remove the old switch and install the new.

I can get you part# or send you the part off my web site www.whirlpoolpartssurplus.com if you would like. I would need the model#

I hope this helps.

THanks
Vic

Roper Washer Wont Spin Out

Probably a bad lid switch. Open the control panel. Disconnect the lid switch wire connector on top of the cabinet under the control panel. Make a small insulated jumper wire and insert it into the wire that is still connected to the control panel. Set the timer to spin. If it spins replace the lid switch in the cabinet. If not, replace the timer.

No Spin No Drain

Lid switch is most likely the problem, if lid switch is visible under lid on right side then this is older design and common problem switch.
if you have console frame covers on front sides, snap off from top, a screw is at bottom front corners of console, remove and pull console forward and fold back. If lid swich is hidden then you will see it at left on top of cabinet with console folded back. a 5/16 screw holds a green ground wire to cab. remove and switch will unclip with lid up. If lid switch was visible under lid then you need to remove 2 brass clips holding cabinet on top of base to back, pry with screwdriver to unclip. undo harness connection on cabinet top, this is your lid switch connection. sw body is held by 2 phillips screws, harness tube held by clips on underside of cabinet top. ground wire with 5/16 screw present at sw body. New versions of this switch have metel shield attached.
