I have done that - also have connected the original keyboard to work with the blue screen but can't get any response. I have a broken USB port (the plastic thingy fell out) I have a feeling that my PC thinks something is in there

I have a broken USB port (plastic doohickey) came out - I think my PC believes it is still connected. I have disconnected everything and plugged in the original keyboard. Still cannot get past the Blue Screen -- I can hit Esc and get loading Boot Menu but noting has happened for an hour or so

  • corr165 Oct 13, 2010

Right now it is sitting on Loading Boot Menu .....

  • corr165 Oct 13, 2010

Vista ... how the heck do I open it up? Sorry, I am really challenged with PCs ... am a 60 year woman who knows how to use a PC but not how to dablle with it! I tried putting a thumb drive into the broken USB port but it appears to not go all the way into the port --- feels like is jamming and I cannot really see why?

  • corr165 Oct 14, 2010

I rather thought that I would need someone else to help me but couldn;t afford it right now - luckily both my husband and I do have laptops so are still able to function without the desktop ! My zip code is 44883 and we live in Tiffin, Ohio USA. If you cold recommend someone that would be great.
I do appreciate all your advice.
    Thx

What is the operating system you are using? Also please get me the make and model of your motherboard so that I can check i there is some way to disable the faulty USB. Even better , i you are willing to open it up then we can just unplug the USB connector of that particular port.

The jam is because it is broke(you said that the plastic thingy broke). That is the reason that the system is not booting. THe BIOS is programmed to perform a self-test when the system boots up and if this test fails, then it will be stuck at that point. Since you do not know how to remove the USB power cords, I strongly suggest that you take the assistance of someone who does, a friend, neighbour or anyone else. The USB power connectors on the mother board will be labelled FP_USB(Front Panel USB) if its at the front or just USB if its the port at the back. All that he has to do is to disconnect the 2-4 pins of the faulty USB port from the motherboard and this will help it clear the self-test.

Base from the description of your problem the issue her can be some conflict on the system , so what you can do here is to disconnect any device that is connected to your USB port and then power power off the computer for about 10 minutes then power back on and if still same thing we need here a operating system installation disc to repair your system.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

I cant get my computer to operate in windows normal mode and i cant get to reboot to originao settings acer 5738z, i bought a recovery disc but cant even get this to load as can nly have laptop on in...

I believe you should try LKGC (Last Known Good configuration) before using a recovery disc.

Follow the steps below,

Step 1: Shut down your PC completely.
Step 2: Turn on the Power button.
Step 3: As soon as you turn it on start hitting the F8 key on your keyboard until you get to a black screen called "Windows Advanced option". (If you don't get to that that screen but you end up reaching the blue screen than that means you have delayed in hitting the F8 key. start again from step 1.)
Step 4: As soon as you reach "Windows Advanced option" use your down arrow keys to choose an option called "Last know good configuration".
Step 5: Select that and HIT ENTER.

Most probably the intergrated Graphic on the mainboard of your Laptop is faulty. Too bad, you have to replace it from ACER or any authorised Vendors.
If the cost is too expensive to repair, get a new Laptop/notebook.

Blue Screen

Use the following steps to replace the missing files when Windows cannot start.

  1. Turn the computer on and place the first recovery disc into the top drive.
  2. After inserting the disc, turn the computer off, wait about ten seconds, and turn the computer on again.
  3. If an HP Recovery screen displays "Press any key to continue...", press the spacebar.
  4. To continue, read the warning screen and click OK.
  5. Click Advanced Options at the top of the screen.
  6. Click Selective Recovery.
  7. Read the Select Files to Restore window that appears.
  8. Type the name of the file. For example, if the error message is MNYUTIL.DLL is linked to missing export MFC42.DLL, type MFC*.DLL.
  9. Click OK. If there is more than one recovery disc, it may be necessary to insert another disc when prompted.
  10. When therecovery process has finished copying files, remove the disc andrestart the computer. If problems, persist it may be necessary toperform a system restore or a non-destructive recovery.
(Note: Click here for information on ordering the recovery CD/DVD sets)

thx.

Blue Screen

This is an operating system error. You will need to run a system repair with either the recovery or operating system disc.
