ms883, when 1760 is in black screen, please shine bright flashlight 1 inch from screen and let me know if you can see a very "faint" image of the icons on the glass lcd panel. If you see image= switch mode power supply in "partial shutdown mode". if no image seen, then SMPS in "full shutdown mode". You should also do some reading here: http://www.lesliewong.us/blog/2005/05/02... Your monitor's symptom seem like it could be problem with it's internal ac to dc power supply and or the inverter circuit which lights-up the (2) fluorescent lamps that provide "white light" so you can see what is on the glass lcd panel. ALL, and I mean ALL brands use same basic technology to display images and text on lcd monitor screens. 12fixlouie

Try it with another PC first to make sure it is not video card problem.
If it is the monitor, then you should read my guide and look at the pictures of failed monitors.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed GATEWAY and other monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

How do I turn it on

Hello.

To power on the Gateway VX750, press the power button on the front. The power button has 3 sides with a "G" in the middle.

The LED indicates the power status of the monitor.
  • Not lit - The monitor is turned off or does not have power connected.
  • Blinks one time and then goes off - The LED blinks one time when the monitor's power cord is plugged into an AC outlet to indicate that power is detected.
  • Lit solid blue - The monitor is turned on and active.
  • Blinking blue - The monitor is in power saving mode. Before entering power saving mode, a message briefly appears.
Hope this helps.

My monitor will no longer start up it just has a black screen

I estimate around $75~100 depend on hourly rate or less, more likely to have bad caps in the power supply, if the shop is real good, they should be able to fix it in less than an hour, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
