Question about Canon PIXMA MP830 All-In-One InkJet Printer

I also have the problem tthat the error message says to unlock the scanner lock switch, but this switch is not in the 'lock' position. Power off, switch on and off, wait for some time, power back on... same message. Any other solutions?

    Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried it for about 30 times in a variety of speeds, beginning with printer on and off, disconnecting the power cable for 30 minutes, nothing helps.

    Beginning with printer on ( error message on the display): press reset then one beep, press power button and the printer shuts down.

    Beginning with printer off: press reset and hold, press power button, printer turns on and pressing reset twice then results in 2 beeps. Continuing the procedure makes no difference, the printer keeps on starting up and stops with the error message about the scanner lock.

    Am I doing something wrong or do you have another suggestion?

    oh and I forgot to mention that in some cases during this reset procedure, the display turns white, only showing "CANON" and then after a while "Idle". Inside the printer some starting up sounds, but then it remains in that postion and does not respond to anything. According to the pc the printer is offline...

    Thank you for the suggestion. It didn't help however. First it went into "SFP TEST MODE", then "SFP TEST MODE Idle" en then no further response or actions. Any other suggestions?

This may already be mechanical and may need service repair, but yuo may give this a try. Basically same steps you did. turn off the printer, disconnect it from the computer and unplug its power cord. press its power button for about 10 seconds just to discharge any power left to it. Next, open the document cover and adjust the scanner lock switch to the lock position. Wait about about 10 seconds, then adjust the scanner lock switch back to the "release" position, and close the document cover. Connect the power cord back, then switch on the printer, wait for about 30 secs to a minute, then switch it off again. Connect the printer back to the system, then switch it on and test it. Hope this will get you moving forward on this situation.

    may be time to get it serviced, but try to initiate the service mode option and see if that gives a little light on the situation.

    power off the printer, then remove and reconnect the power cord, then hold the stop/reset button and the power button for 5 seconds. Release the stop/reset button but continue to hold power button. While doing this, press the stop or reset button two times, then release the power button. Check if any of the lights are blinking on the device. If yes, wait for them to stop flashing, then press stop or reset again, then press the power button. If this works, the printer will produce a service mode print out. Press the stop button 5 times, then press Destination, then 4 times again on the stop and another 1 on the power button. Press stop once, then power for another printout and finally, power button twice.

    if all goes well, turn off and turn on the printer and see how it goes. If nothing helps. one of the internal parts may have to be replaced for you.

I will advice you Press and hold the "Resume" button on the printer. Press and hold the "Power" button while holding down "Resume."
Release the "Resume" button. Press "Resume" twice. The indicator light will turn amber followed by green.
Release the "Power" button. Press the "Resume" button four times.
Press the "Power" button. The printer is now reset, and your printer should work fine.

Beneath the scanner is a lock switch, ensure that it is in the unlocked position.

If it is in the unlocked position and it still displays this error message then you will need to get a technician to free the reader assembly and give it a clean. Not too big a job. It's a good little scanner I enjoy mine, even after the same thing happened to it.

Error light on and saying scanner error


Open the Lid for scanner, check for a switch on the side for Scanner Lock. Try to switch it to unlock position and retry booting up Printer. That should take care of scanner error message.

Xerox C20 displaying "Scanner Locked" message. Won't copy.

  1. Press the power switch to the OFF (O) position. The power switch is located on the lower, left side of the machine.


  2. Pull the scan lock switch toward the front of the machine to unlock the Scanner.



    NOTE: The scan lock switch is located on the bottom of the Scanner Module. Make sure the scan lock is completely free. It sometimes hangs at the halfway point.

  3. Press the power switch to the ON (|) position. A 'Warming Up, Please Wait' message will be displayed on the Display Screen. Warm up time is less than 40 seconds from power ON and less than 25 seconds from the Power Saver mode.

Scanner locked

Look where your copies come out and there is a switch on the top underside, (green on the M20i) and make sure it is in the unlocked position. You may need to wiggle the switch to fully unlock it. Mine was locked but I was able to re-engage flipping the switch several times.

My 5800 keeps telling me to unlock it when I click scan, but I can't find the lock anywhere.

The 5800 scanner does not have a physical lock switch. DO NOT attempt to open the scanner and unlock the hardware. This could be either a hardware failure or software
Toggle the lock switch on the scanner leaving the switch in the unlocked (open padlock) position.
Ensure you are using the correct power supply for your scanner. If you are using a power supply that has the incorrect DC output, you will get a scanner locked error message. This flatbed scanners has I believe 100-120V AC input and 12V DC output.

Plug the power directly to the wall, not a UPS battery back-up, power strip or surge protector. Power fluctuations from a UPS battery back-up, power strip or surge protector may be causing this error. If all this fails try reinstalling the scanner driver

I have 2 model al-1540cs copiers that are producing blank copies. The scanner doesn't seem to be moving and is in the unlocked position. I am getting no error messages, the paper is facing in the right...

When [L1-00] appears, the scan head
locking switch is locked. Turn off the
power, release the scan head locking
switch, WAIT 10 SECONDS and turn the power back on.

According to the manual, it's on the bottom of the scanner. It's a slide switch that should be moved toward the picture of the open padlock.

Lexmark X83 "Unlock Scanner" error

I had the same problem and the solution is this: There is a red lever switch by the power chord on the scanner/printer. Above this red lever switch is the drawing of a lock in the "locked" position and at the bottom this red lever switch is the drawing of a lock in the "opened (unlock)" position. The lever on the red switch should point to the "opened" lock symbol (unlock). It the switch lever is pointing to the "locked" position of the lock symbol, flip it to the "opened" position and recycle power on the scanner by removing the power chord for a 30 seconds. If the lever is pointing to the "unlock" lock symbol, flip it to the "locked" position and then back to the "unlocked" position and recycle power. Good luck!

Scanner seems stuck and causes error

you can always try to install the printer on a friend's pc as a test of the you have the install cd? if not try canon's site to download it.
