Question about Corel WordPerfect Office X4 Standard Full Version for PC

Open Question

I am using WordPerfectx4 in an office network. We have templates. Whenever I open a template, work on it and then save as, the spacing changes from the original tempate. Although the line spacing still shows as 1.0 or 2.0, my document will look different (has a tighter spacing) than a co-worker's document does. Any ideas on how to fix this as I work in a law office where all our documents need to be consistent.

Do you know the version number of WordPerfect X4 you have installed?

What version of Windows are you using (e.g. XP, Vista or Win7)

Make sure you have the latest service pack installed:

One issue is that the JPEG filter is not compatible with the images you are using, that is why the ones that you save in PhotoShop work, because it re-creates the images using a different JPEG filter.

the work around for that issue would be to re-save the JPEG's that are not working in PhotoShop or any other photo editing software. PaintShop Photo Pro X3 has a built in batch convert were it will allow you to save a batch of files to a different format.

Another reason and this is only if you are using XP with a P4 processor is that there is a known issue with app in WPX4 that is called CDRCONV.EXE. There is a workaround for the known issue, click on the link below for the work around:

I can't open my docs yet I KNOW they haven't been deleted because I am able to email them. How do I fix this?


MS Word offers several different views in which you can read and work on documents.
The view you are using when you save a document will be the default view when you open that same document the next time.
Likewise, if you open a document created by someone else, the view in which they saved it will be the default for that file unless you change it and save it again.
You can change your default Word template, though, so that new Word documents always open in the view of your choice.

Close any Microsoft Word documents or windows on your computer.
Locate the \"Normal.dot\" file on your computer.
This is the default template for all new Word documents. If you are using Windows XP, navigate to \"c:\\documents and settings\\username\\application data\\Microsoft\\templates\", changing \"username\" to your user name on the computer.
For Windows Vista or Windows 7, go to \"c:\\users\\username\\appdata\\roaming\\Microsoft\\templates\", again, changing the username to your user name on Windows.

Right-click \"Normal.dot\" and select \"Open.\"
A new Word document will open, which is actually the default document template.

Change the view to the one you desire.
To do so in Word 2003, go to the \"View\" menu and click on the view you want to use.
In Word 2007 or 2010, go to the \"View\" tab and select a view.

Type something into the document and then delete it.
This allows Word to recognize that a change has been made to the template without adding any unwanted items.
Click the \"Save\" button or press the \"Ctrl\" and \"S\" keys to save the changes to your default Word template.

How do I set up an out of office message in Outlook 2010?


You can create part-time or temporary 'Out of Office' automated replies in Microsoft Outlook. These can be set so that whenever you leave the office, an auto reply is sent.


This is useful if you have a high volume of e-mail messages and are expected to reply to them quickly.


You can fully customize your auto reply in Microsoft Outlook 2010.


Launch Microsoft Outlook from the Start Menu.


Click "New E-mail." Click "Plain Text."

Enter the message for your out-of-office reply in the main body of the text.


Click "File," then "Save As." Click the "Save as type" list and select "Outlook Template." Enter a name such as "out of office" and click "Save."


Click "File," then "Info." Click "Rules and Alerts," then "New Rule."


Click "Start from a blank rule," then "Check messages when they arrive," then "Next." Set "Sent Only to Me" in the conditions list and click "Next."


Select "Reply using a specific template," then choose "Specific template" on the next page as well.


Click "Select a Reply Template." Choose the template you already created and click "Open." Click "Finish," then "OK." All e-mails will now have the out-of-office reply. Disable it in "Rules" to switch it off.

When I open Word 2007 to write a letter, or anything taking more than one line, each additional line is in double spacing. How do I change to single spacing as it did in Word 2003?


Your normal template has probably been edited to double spaced text.

To fix this you need to edit your normal template file - it will live inside C:Program Files/Microsoft Office/ Templates or a folder under this or something similar to this.

Open your template and change the line spacing to single, then save it over the existing template.

How do I change line spacing from double to single spacing? Whenever I commence to write a letter the second line is at double spacing as are all succeeding lines. How do I get it to single spaced lines?


Open a NEW, CLEAN document. Alter all the paragraph setting until you get them exactly as you want them.

Now the tricky part.

Save the document as a TEMPLATE and save to a folder you are familiar with. Give it a good name and below that on the dialog box, choose TEMPLATE (file type dotx)

Next time you need to type a letter with single spacing, open that template. When you go to save it, Word will prompt you for a file name as a docx, thus preserving your template for another day.

Can you save a text template to be put on your texts every time


Yes, it is actually called a signature. Go to your message settings and you should see signature option, select that and then add the text you want to be on your messages. But make sure that your signature is turned ON in your message settings. Hope this helps!

Word template never changes!


tried to delete Normal.dot

you need to search for this file and delte it make sure you enable show hidden files and folders when you search this file

New doc spacing automatically goes to double.


use the shift + enter to get single line. else you need to save a template that includes single line.

Office XP Pro


The "Normal" template opens whenever you start Word, and it includes the default settings for your new documents... as well as any customizations you may have opted for along the way. Sounds like your version of the normal template now includes the text of this document.

On the File menu, click Open, and then navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates and look for "Normal.dot". You may need to change the Files of Type drop box to "Document Templates" to see it.

Open the file, select all the text you see there and delete it. Save the file and close it. You should get clean pages now when you open a new document.

Alternatively, you can use Windows Explorer to navigate to that same directory and delete the entire Normal.dot file. MS Office will simply create a fresh one when you launch Word again.

Using drop-down form field in a word 2007 template


You need to protect the form (Protect Document, Editing Restrictions (Filling in Forms) then Start Enforcing Protection, the drop down menu will then work.
