Question about Bissell 7950 ProHeat Upright Wet/Dry Vacuum

The water will be pumped on the carpet but the soap will not be pumped when I use the Proheat 7950.

    I think the problem could be with the SmartMix knob. I believe it was difficult to tum. How do I get to the piston? Is there a good manual available;the one that comes with the heater does not explain how to gain access to the piston.

    Daniel thanks for the information. I took apart the unit and found out that the AutoMix Knob had broken where it turned the piston. So I need to buy a new AutoMix Knob. Do I need to buy a new main housing and an AutoMix knob? I can't see how the AutoMix knob comes apart from the main housing. Does the main housing come supplied with the AutoMix knob installed?

You may have a bad water pump or trigger assembly. There is a valve under the water tank that sometimes is defective. Another thing to look for is a red rubber stopper on the soap dispenser, make sure it is not missing. Hi

Please follow this procedure to resolve the issue---

1. Test the trigger mechanism. There should be 1/4" of free travel before 1/4" of resistance.
If not, ensure that valve is seated correctly. If valve is OK, replace the trigger rod.
2. Check resistance of the SmartMix knob by turning it from left to right several times. If
difficult to turn, check to see that the piston is installed correctly (with housing removed)
3. Check seals on Clear Water Tank and Solution Tank. If necessary, re-seat or replace
seals.
4. Check valve action on Clear Water Tank and Solution Tank by depressing them with
your finger. The valve should move up and down. Replace if necessary.
5. Check position and condition of gaskets at nozzle window top and motor duct. Re-seat or
replace if necessary.
6. Check position of tabs (2) at upper rear of nozzle window to ensure they are inserted
properly into their alignment holes. Re-seat if necessary.

    Hi Neal,



    Please check these instructions, these would help you---



    1. Unplug the unit.
    2. Recline the handle backwards fully.
    3. Turn SmartMix to "normal" traffic setting.
    4. Remove the Solution and Clean Water Tanks.
    5. Remove clear flow indicator cap, red spinner and filter.
    6. Remove the two screws in the nozzle window and lift the front of the window straight up
    to remove.
    7. Remove four screws located on top of main housing, near the wheels.
    8. Remove the main housing from the unit (some units have snaps on front of housing -- lift
    front of housing to remove these) Pressing down on flow indicator opening may help
    remove housing.
    9. Ensure that rope gasket is placed properly on the housing -- reposition with a flat
    screwdriver.
    10. Check lines for evidence of pinching and restricted flow. Straighten and un-pinch lines as
    necessary. ( See base photo page 18)
    11. After removing housing, check that the SmartMix piston is still positioned within the
    main housing.



    Flow System---



    1. Remove SmartMix piston from the main housing and place SmartMix body (located
    beneath the knob on the main housing, inside of the unit) so that it is 1/16" from
    completely inserted.
    2. Replace tanks in unit.
    3. Plug unit in and turn it on.
    4. Pull trigger to check spray -- making sure upper handle is firmly positioned onto the
    lower handle. Water should flow through tubing from the tank to the pump and the red
    float inside the pump should move up. If it doesn't, replace the pump.
    5. Check the tubes for air bubbles as the unit is spraying -- bubbles indicate an air leak that
    prevents pump from priming.
    6. Locate the source of any air leaks and correct them, looking first at the auto load receiver
    (under the tank) and the SmartMix assembly.

most of the Bissell carpet cleaners that have the water heating feature stop pumping water at one time or another. Make sure the belt is still on the pump and if it is then the problem is probably in the heater core in the handle. Hard water deposits plug the tiny little water ways inside the heater core. Pull the heater core and take it apart and clean it with a strong scrub brush and I think vinegar works for cleaning I was told. I just use soap and a brush. Then flush all your lines with hot water. The cause is from hard water deposits or leaving the soap in the cleaner after you use it. Both will stop it from pumping water

Your extraction pump is bad. it needs replaced by a Repair center such as Sears.

more likely new pump put new belts on too .......but first take tank off unscrew plastic top housing cover ...unclip red jets ..unplug from hose see if there blocked ...gone off soap. it goes hard ..

piston that sits under mix dial not in place, tanks not seating right,gap in back housing may not let tank meet the plunger pin so that water can release

Bissell carpet shampooer wont dispense water


Bad Pump. You pump is where the belt attaches to spin the brushes and also puts water on the floor. Take it to you local Best Buy to be serviced or a local appliance shop which may service it.

Bissell proheat self propelled series 7950 won't spray water and pump belt isn't broken.


I'm having the same issue and it was the pump. The metal drive gear sheared off of the plastic pump shaft. I JB Welded it back together, now I just need a schematic to reassemble the cleaner.

You may try the trigger assembly may not be releasing the water , your brushes spin and the soap comes out but no water – it may have come unhooked or broken, also the water line could be plugged, clogged or pinched and not releasing water to the brushes -- you may try the owners manual for the trouble shooting for the item or check the Bissell website listed below or the customer service phone number of 1-800-237-7691 – the website has a list of trouble shooting listed right on the website I you enter the Model number and hit trouble shooting
