My computer takes about half an hour to be completely ready. If I don't wait that long to use it, it freezes, takes forever to load something. I have an HP pavillion a610n desktop.

try upgrading the memory. 2 gigs is a good way to run.
You can also download a free registry cleaner and optimizer program that also cleans up all the garbage and speeds up your pc without loosing any files. It's called Glary Utilities and it's free. I suggest downloading and running it if possible.

It's taking forever -several minutes-to open my Yahoo E-mail account. Does my computer have a virus? I can't access other websites, also. Please help!! It is a Dell Windows computer. I don't know any more...

Do a Ctrl alt del before opening the mail and checkhow much memory and how many resources are taking. If you see IExplore taking an abnormal amount of memory, this is the problem. Microsoft will not work on this continuous buildup of memory, the only thing to get around it is to reboot your system or get out of Internet Explorer and start again

Have you added new software lately? This will sometimes cause conflicts with software already on the computer. I recently fixed a similiar problem by reinstalling windows and then removing a software program that had just been installed before the freeze-up.

Have you defragged the hard drive recently? Right click on the drive and go to "Properties" then "Tools" to defragment the drive. You might also invest in some more memory. Good luck!

ACER T160 FREEZES

I have an aspiteM3610 withVistaWith almost the same problem from input freezes for about 8 minutes to a total machine freeze and a hang to be followed by a switch-off (by me).
I don't have a real solution but to explore the problem you may take a look at the installed RAM: wilth all of the updates of Windows and services running even 1 GB may be to cramped. So may consider to add two strips of 1 GB. Furthermore I have slowly found out that the USB system has a problem: I can't start up with a logitech wireless mouse and /or an USB drive or al large USB stick in the machine and after connecting them after startup they will sometimes give rise to rather strange problems in the system even bitmap errors in the MFT of a NTFS partition. If this happens too you may try to boot with a PS/s keyboard and even no mouse at first and try it out.
Good luck!

When you said "I think its a memory problem" your right, you need more of it. Try adding more RAM. It's really cheap now a days, especially for the 2400. Memory is available everywhere. While this is not an endorsement of their site, Computer Memory Outlet.com has about the cheapest RAM available and they are reputable and reliable and orders usually ship next day. I personally get all my memory from them.

p.s. They have an on site utility that will scan your computer and tell you the exact RAM you need and the maximum RAM you can add

You might not have enough RAM, (Random Access Memory) RAM is memory that the computer temporarily stores for future commands, and I know Vista takes about 1-2 GB of RAM to run, if it can't handle it, I'd suggest using windows XP.

Hi, Based on your post/description: Problem 1 - experience has shown me that most of the time freezing is caused either by memory, video card or driver/software. Since you have reinstalled windows, that should rule out driver/software. Likewise, since it has a built-in video (Via-S3 @ 32mb) video can also be ruled out; not unless of course if you have installed an AGP video card (which should be 4X @1.5v). If you have, try removing it first and run the PC with the built-in video just to determine if the video is causing the freeze/crash/hang. That leaves us the memory, as shipped this brand/model only has 128 MB DDR or SDRAM but as per your post the mem is 640mb so big chance that you have upgraded/replace/added mem say 128 + 512? Here's the issue, your PC uses KM266 chipset with an FSB of 266, big chance the original mem is 266 or 333 but the added mem would be something else? You have to check that its rating should be the same as the other/original memory. Both memories should be the same speed. Am not sure if your motherboard also uses dual channel memory, but if it does maybe it will be better to have 2 X 256 or 2 X 512 rather than 128 + 512 (max is 1G). Problem 2 - Sometimes Windows installer does not completely recognize features of mb/chipsets, you simply have to install the inf, drivers, updates for the motherboard. They are available at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00021854&dlc=en&product=326832&lang=en& Good luck and hopes this be of some help or ideas to you. Pls post back how things turn or for further information. Kind regards.
