Check the idler to ensure that it moves freely and the pull off spring is intact.I have seen rocks or sticks get up under them & jam them in place not allowing the idler to release the belt.

Why will blades will not disengage?

check your return spring on the deck. it goes from hole in bracket welded to deck to hole in moving lever that one of the deck pulleys is attached to. if spring is missing or broke, it will not dissengage or may dissengage slowly. If spring is there, the moving lever may have debris under it or may be bent. If spring is there, remove deck and try pushing the pully with the spring to see if it breaks free.

How to fix the blade engage pulley

need more info. if it seems loose and wobbly, you need to replace it. If the whole arm is not moving, it may have grass or dirt between it and the deck...clean it out. if its not dissengaging or takes a long time to dissengage, you may need to re attach the return spring.

Engine stalls

could be a stuck pulley or bearing, or debris in the cutting deck. make sure the blades turn freely with mower off and blades dissengaged. If they dont, remove the deck and check all of the pulleys for freeness.

Replaced blades on my craftsman 46

Many machines will have a brake block against one of the pulleys to slow the blades down when they are dissengaged, so this could be quite normal

I have a Irwin Coping Saw and would like to know how to change the blades but cannot find any information about how to do it.

Hi weekogene,

Welcome to fixya!

To change the blade, hold the handle in one hand and the pin nearest the handle with the other hand. Turn the handle counterclockwise to loosen blade. Hold the part of the frame farthest from the handle against something, such as a workbench.
The blade will loosen and can be lifted out.

The blade can be installed with teeth running in either direction depending on whether you want to cut on the pull or push stroke. Point the teeth back toward the handle if you want to cut on the pull stroke.

Hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate your vote. Thanks,

Handie Andie

Balde wheel is engaged while trying to pull start making the task extremely difficult. is there a clutch mechenism that is not dissengaging?

No. The blade is like a flywheel and is connected directly on the motor shaft. However, these usually have separate choke and throttle handles. I have found that they start easiest if the throttle is set pretty low and the choke is closed. Once it starts to fire, then slowly open the choke - allowing it to pick up a bit of speed before you open the choke all of the way. Then wait a few seconds before turning up the throttle. On the other hand, if you have debris in the machine making it hard to turn, you will have to clean some of it out before you start it. Good luck, Al K

I have a remington electric chainsaw model 107624-02. The chain came off I put it back on and the saw will now not start. It worked perfectly before this. What are the most likely problems and how can I...

It is possible there is a micro switch in the chain brake handle, grab the hand guar and pull it fully back to the top handle, it should click when the brake has dissengaged, now try again.

Installing blade on a bosch jigsaw

The black part on top of the handle must be pulled directly up about 1/2 an inch. this engages the screw mechanism that loosens the blade. For some people doing this the first time feels like they are going to break the handle but it moves easier over time. Now turn the black handle counterclockwise several turns and the blade will hang loose in the holder. Turn the blade 90 degrees and remove it. Place a new blade in and turn back 90 degrees. Tighten the handle on top until it clicks. Align the black handle to the main handle and press back down into place.

How do you change the blade in a DeWalt Jig Saw Model DW321

  1. Lift the black handle/knob approximately ¼”.
  2. Turn the handle/knob counterclockwise 5-7 full turns until blade chuck is completely open, keep the black knob pulled up as you turn it.
  3. Insert “T” shank or universal jigsaw blades into the chuck making certain that the back edge of the blade fits into the support roller. Please note that when using “T” shank blades, insert the blade to the shoulder of the shank.
  4. With the knob/handle still in the up position, turn the handle/knob clockwise until the knob starts to ratchet.
  5. Push the handle/knob down. The blade is completely installed at this point.

On Orbit Pvc Cutting tool, can't get blade to come open to insert and cut the riser.

Good tip... but when the handles stop, you have to keep forcing them apart until the blade opens (like a wishbone)!
