I have a missing recycle bin on my external hard drive, 80 gig. I'm not able to delete. I can cut and paste to another drive, but I'd like some help. How do I recover the recycle bin? I have a folder that says recycled, but it is not hilighted.

I was deleting items to make more room and I think I deleted too much.

Go to your recycle bin and restore what you deleted in error. If you have already deleted the items in recycle bin, you are out of luck and will have to re install the missing programs and/or material if you have backups.

Wd 1 tb - shows no disc space left, but the files on it don't take up much space.

Depending on the Operating System you are using (i.e. Windows or Mac OSX etc.), they deal with deleting files in different ways. In the case of an Apple Mac, it doesn't actually delete you files, but instead moves them to the recycle bin which is located ON your external hard drive. This means that in order to make the space available, you have to empty your recycle bin on your desktop whilst the hard drive is plugged in and it will empty the folder for you. Or look for a hidden folder on the root of your Hard Drive called Recycle and delete it (it will be recreated by your system when your system needs it).

Alternatively, 1TB is a large drive meaning that it is possible that your file structure has become "fragmented". Don't worry yourself with the specifics, but if you right-click on the drive and access the Properties, choose the Tools tab and use the Defragment tool. Also it might be worth using the Check Disk For Errors option, although Defragment is more relevant in this case.

If you run through these basic troubleshooting steps listed above I hope you will gain access to your cleared space.

Seagate Freeagent external Hard drive won't increase free space when files are deleted?

How are you deleting the files? If you're simply moving them to the trashcan/recycle bin then they're still taking space on your drive. Try emptying the trashcan/recycle bin.

Cant delete files off external harddrive. files disappear but no space is freed up? lacie porche fa

this sometimes happens when you delete files partially. Deleting file normally will send it to the Trash (MAC) or Recycle Bin (PC) . The file is not really deleted at that point. Make sure to empty the Trash or Recycle Bin and the space should be freed.
If this does not work, copy all needed files somewhere else, then format the drive.

Recyle bin folder on my external hard drive and I can't deleted it. How can I get rid of it?

You can right click properties on your recycle bin. Then, choose "each drive independent.". If that does not work; simply, boot into safe mode; and delete it, like you would any other file.

Need to restall from recycle bin

Open the recycle bin. Then, select the file you want to restore (or multiple files, through either Ctrl-click or Shift-click), right-click it (them), and select 'Restore'. It (they) will be moved to its (their) original location(s), prior to its (their) deletion.
Just my 2 cents.. Carlos

160 gig external storage

Plug In your external drive! if you have any data back it up!(you said it was new so i assume there little to none) Go to start->run type diskmgmt.msc In the bottom pane look for your external drive! If there is a partition, right click and delete! Now the drive should appear full black on disk management! If not delets any other partitionin the drive. (Make sure you are deleting the external drive partition(s)) Now you can create drives by right clicking on the drive and click create partition! It should bring up a wizard which gives you the option to format, set partition sizes and everything!! If you don't wanna go through all that check out a third party software called Partition Magic: hope this was helpful, regards, babb
