Please go to your bios settings and look for the display option and change it to pci.

When power up all i get is the beeps and blank monitor and no lights on the key board. The lights remain green after the beeps stop

King of beeps is important. Most probably a faulty video card or RAM memory. Could be just a bad connection due to dust in the slot. While checking, be careful not to cause additional damage by static electricity, i. e. turn PC off but leave the power cord in to keep chassis grounded, also touch something connected to ground to discharge your hands, touch the components only on the edges.

make sure to check your bios is up to date check bios to see if all the pci slots are enabled and check
*********** board for a jumper if the system has onboard video sometimes you have to disable the on board video by setting the jumper to disable also sometimes in the bios there is a setting to set default video card to pci just dig around and se what you can find... if all that dosn't work these little form factor systems usualy have very limited amount of power it may be that your power supply may just not be pushing enough to run the card

I just hauled my very old Acer notebook (Travelmate 220) out of storage to give to a worthy cause, but I can't open it. It's password protected which is something I never usually bother with, but back then...

For that you have to reset bios settings.
Open back cover of laptop then find motherbord .
Pull CMOS cell from motherbord for 10 minutes from motherbord so all settings reset.
You can also reset password with jumper on motherbord.
Find jumper on motherbord named "clear cmos " or "reset bios " it has 3 pin.
Set jumper in 2-3 position then again put jumper in 1-2 position .
Then all settings goes to factory defaults.
Let me know if you need more assistance.
Thanks.
