SOURCE: poulan 3400 chainsaw throttle trigger

Its a missing or broken spring in the handle(trigger). If you look inside the handle you should see a circular spring around the post of the trigger. This spring returns trigger to idle position. If its missing or broken the trigger won't spring back.

SOURCE: poulan starter rope

to fix starter rope first you must wind spring and place back in housing. just grab spring by middle and wind ,you will have to get it smaller than housing hole. One end should hook to a tab at housing rest of it sets inside itself. once set in housing dont let go, insert rope housing over top & screw in. rope housing should have some return spring to it when pulled. if rope is not tight on return pull simply add one winding to spool. hope it helps!

IAW with specifications here (40:1 - 1 gallon of premium fuel to 3.2 ounces of quality 2-cycle oil)

Fuel/Oil Mixture

  1. Use a quality 2 cycle oil and mix it to the OIL suppliers recommended ratio. Today I use Stihl 2 cycle oil mixed @ 50:1 in a Pioneer that I purchased new in 1980. There are no gouges or scratches on the piston or cylinder and I have no carbon build up on the piston top. The manual (on stone tablets) recommends 24:1. Over the years the mixture has leaned from 24:1 (Saw Recommendation) to 28:1 (Lawn boy mower recommendation) to 32:1 (Oil provider 1gal premium/4oz chainsaw 2-cycle engine oil - used for many years) and finally the last 5 (±) years 50:1 (1gal premium/2.6oz Stihl 2-cycle engine oil)
  2. Any fuel containing ethanol is not good with chainsaws. Mix what you expect to use within a few weeks. Anything over 1.5 months old use up in a 4 cycle engine. HTH

I owned a Poulan Chainsaw, Model 3400-16, serial #355267705. I need a Manual and parts list. I have the chainsaw here in the Philippines. Please provide me the dealer's name and service center...

Hi and welcome to FixYa I am Kelly. I am also in the Philippines (Leyte) and pretty much retired. What is it that you need for your Poulan 3400-16 Chainsaw? I will see what I can find out. I have worked on small engines for over 40 years and been part of the Philippines since Mar 1976. If it is out there I can pretty much find something. Sadly... it sometimes results in the repair parts being imported and a very long turn around time. If it is in-country... I will find it.

Use this linked page for your manual and parts:
http://www.poulan.com/node7922.aspx

I used 3400 and got this parts list:
http://weborder.husqvarna.com/order_static/doc/NIUS/NIUS1980/NIUS1980_64155.pdf
and this owner's manual:
http://weborder.husqvarna.com/order_static/doc/NOUS/NOUS1980/NOUS1980_66640.pdf

If you use the parts list and know the part number you need I can tell you who will ship to the Philippines. www.erplacementparts.com is one side that does and they have Poulan Parts.

Gas leaks out of poulan 3400 counter vibe chainsaw handle.

The fuel tank is integral with the plastic housing of the saw. A leak has obviously developed, I would say its time to replace the plastic housing and go from there.

Do you have an owners amnual for a 1983 Poulan Countervibe 3400 chainsaw?

Follow this LINK. If it doesn't work, let me know. I know it says Husqvarna, but that is because Husqvarna owns Poulan, but this is a poulan manual.

Poulan countervibe 3400 clutch removal

Hello DJ; I suspect she is has some age. The IPL I found (below) shows an outboard clutch and no chain brake.
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/PWE/3400-Gas-Saw/75.3400-Gas-Saw.1.59.1.html it may be helpful with disassembly. Clutch detail is on the "Handle Bar Assembly" print.
R² Drive Link Outboard Clutch by Drivelink.blogspot.com

1. Check the IPL for your saw to see if any special tools are needed. Poulan (Craftsman, Jonsered, Husky) clutch removal tool part number 530031112 if needed, is under $5 from many sources (look at the visible area between the weights if 2 small round sockets are visible you need the tool).
2. There are metal piston stops available, when square (almost never) with the piston top these work well, if not square they have been known to punch through the piston. I suggest a length of nylon rope (nothing left behind) be used instead of the piston stop (retain 6" ± so you can remove it). Make certain the piston is near the top of the cylinder before feeding the cord or it can fall through the exhaust port and damage the piston as it rises.
3. Most (99.9%) clutches have left hand threads (tighten it to loosen it). If a finger nail held in the thread and rotated clockwise comes off the shaft it is a left hand thread. If it pinches against the clutch it is a right hand thread.

If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. HTH & Good Luck.

Poulan Countervibe 3400 will not start

In all of those years, the fuel and oil lines will have deteriorated as well as the rubber components in the carburetor. The fuel filter in the tank is probably also plugged. Remove the spark plug and check for spark--it should be blue and snappy. Check the condition of the primer bulb--it should be soft without holes or cracks. Try some fuel in the cylinder head and reinstall the plug. It should pop a few times if in firing condition. Replace the air cleaner and check the muffler for plugging. Pretty much a major tune up! Hope this helps!

Go to m-and-d.com then parts diagram then illustrated parts online then parts look up then select oem poulan then poulan then saw then look at list of models you will find 3400. Have worked on one or two of the 3400 and they seem to be a fairly good saw for home use.
