GE Front Loading Washer - Pump/drain issue

Hi,

The pump does not move freely (ie. I can only turn the blades a partial rotation). I have removed it and inspected for blockage of any kind, removed a little lint and put back together. The machine will go through a cycle until it is time to spin/drain ten it just sits there and times out. The pump is hot. Do I need to disassemble the pump further to look for blockage? The drain had been very clogged with all kinds of things, could this have burned out the pump motor? Thank you for any advise you have on this. Sue

    Hi there!
I'm back... I finally removed the pump again and check for blockage. It was clear. The pump was tested with a volt meter and it just wouldn't spin. Something that concerns me is the fact that the washer has been powered off (still plugged into the wall) for over a week and the pump was burning hot to touch. Could this indicate there is an electrical type problem that may have caused the pump to fry? If so, then I definitely need a service call, if not, then I will buy a new pump and hold my breath...
    Thanks for any advice!

A few days ago my washer paused towards the end of the load.  I restarted, then it did the same thing.  Long story short it would not drain.  Now service is saying one week!  How do I pull out the filter or other quick look repair?

    Hi!
I ordered a new pump ($117+ s/h) from repairclinic.com and got it in 2 days. I installed it last night and the washer is working great.

Thank you SO MUCH for your advice! I'll definitely be back next time something breaks...

    Have a GREAT day!!!

Yep you will have to take it out and look at it. either something is still in it or the brushes are damaged and burned up/stuck
at least its easy to get to without taking the front off.
as the pump is hot it may be working and just be stuck.

I would just buy a pump as they will charge you for that anyway and the next issue if there is one, so you will knock off at least a hundred.
    .
You should have noticed a service manual taped to the side it will show some of the info on schematic of the main control board.
I found that most of these board to be german manufacturer.
there is a circuit UJT transistor that controls that pump ,it may be shorted out but you will know immediately because the pump will stay running or not or the other cycles will mess up because ccu cannot sense the pumps condition.

Ge does not have the manual on their site so I could not look it up.

If you do have issues then the next and only thing to do is replace /repair the main control board. it is easy to do as it just snaps in place . its in the top access panel and all you have to do is mark the wires , unsnap and replug . takes about 10 mins to do. the CCU (computer control unit) cost around 150 to 250 depending on where you purchase it. oh and add 150. labor to install it.

you are on the right track , be fearless , even if you replace the pump again you are putting money in your pocket.

I'm getting f-35 code and suds, what is that ?

This typically indicates slow drain condition. It's not only if the water drained, but how quickly it drained. Check for any clogs or kinks in the drain line. Also check that the pump is not clogged and that no pump impeller blades are missing/broken and that the impeller moves freely. Any broken/missing blades or if the impeller won't turn freely will indicate a faulty pump. Hard objects can sometimes make it to the pump and cause damage.

I want to open my GE 8 cycle 2 speed Heavy Duty Large Capacity top loading washer so I can see why it does not spin or drain. How do I open it up??

The washer will not advance to the spin cycle if there is a draining problem due to a pump problem or clogs and kinks in the drain hose. Check the drain hose and clear it from any obstruction or kinks. Make sure the drain pump is working. Check the drain pump wiring and make sure the connections are snug fit. Reseat the conenctions several times to clean off dirt and corrosion build up in the terminals and connectors. Replace the drain pump if it is not working at all to pump out the water and allow the washer to advance to the spin cycle. Check the lid switch if the washer fills but does not agitate.

The drain pump can be accessed by removing the front panel. The front panel can be removed by inserting a putty knife blade between the top cover and the front panel in alignment with the groove on either side of the lid and cover.

Push the putty knife to release the clips. Once the clips are released, tilt the front panel forward then lift it off the cabinet base locking tabs ad move away from the washer. Reverse the steps to reassemble.

Please indicate the exact model number of the washer if this advice is not applicable for more accurate troubleshooting and repair advice.

Does not drain well

Check the drain line for kinks. You can also check the pump. Remove the hose from the pump and using a flashlight, look into the suction port on the pump. Look for anything clogging the pump and check the pump impellers. Make sure that no blades are missing or broken and that the impeller spins freely. If any blades are broken/missing or if you cannot get the impeller to rotate freely, the pump is defective and will need replaced. Hopefully it is just a clogged pump. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Front loading ge washer won't drain?

Similar problem fixed in less than 5 minutes. Here's a post that was very helpful. http://www.foobert.com/blog/2007/04/02/ge-adora-front-loading-washer-does-not-drain/
There's a trap located under the front panel (3 screws) I undid the filter and pulled out 21 coins, 2 buttons, a 'letter h', zipper parts, a broach, and a whole lot of lint.

My wife said that the unit never got the clothes so dry afterwords, she said the almost didnt need to throw the clothes in the dryer.

NOTE: Have a ton of towels ready, and if you can fit a bucket or dish under the filter, go slow and steady. I opened it up and had several gallons all over the floor!
