Always extract the hard drive from the machine and take the data off of the drive before you do ANYTHING close to a restore. You can get a USB attachment and plug the drive in to a good computer, then commence with diagnostics and repair of the laptop.

You didn't supply the Make, Model of Laptop or the OS you are using?Remove ALL media, CD, DVD, USB, Unplug , remove battery, plug in , If you can do a restore/recovery procedure. If that fails, open the laptop and reseat the HDD and Memory Mods. I don't know how old your laptop is , Can you open the BIOS? Is the CMOS battery good? Have you tried a OS Repair Disk? Need more info, have you seen this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/unexpected-io-error-has-occured-status-0xc00000e9/ca21de58-4b0d-4f4c-b110-3788fd534e8a

When I powered down and rebooted I got Windows Boot Manager Windows encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage...

hmm seems a lil odd it appears that maybe your internal computer hard drive is failing or that its not properly connected if its happened recently with no internal computer changes then its definitely the hard drive failing on you

Windows boot manager file: /boot/bcd status: oxcoooooe9 info: an unexpected I/o error has occurred I am experiencing the same problem on a Dell laptop (Inspiron 1525: Windows boot manager - file:...

Try check your hard disk with the other machine. Try running hard disk diagnostic test. If there's a problem with diagnostic test i suspect your hard disk is faulty. If you tried connecting with other machine then same problem, suspected also hard disk faulty. You might need to change it.
