Question about Whirlpool 25.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with In-Door-Ice Dispensing System

1 Answer

My whirlpool side by side is not getting cool. It started out with the icemaker not working properly because it was frozen up. I turned everything off and gave both sides a thorough cleaning. Now, however, it won't "start back up." I have power, we've cleaned out all the fuzz, dog hair, and debris under it and around the coils. I've unplugged it and left it unplugged for a few minutes in hope of a "reset." Nothing has worked. I just don't know what to do!! I can't afford a new fridge! Thanks!

When you say "tap the refrig control knob," what do I tap it with and how hard should I tap it? (Sorry I'm so dense with this!) Just so you know, I saw I wasn't clear. Neither side gets cold/cool. It sounds like something starts "humming" in back and wants to go on but doesn't!

If it IS the compressor, is it something that my son could replace? I have a fixed income and even paying a repair man would be difficult. We'd like to avoid it if possible.

I appreciate the help! Thank you so much!

Thank you! I just went out and lightly tapped both the freezer control knob and the refrig control knob with a hammer. It didn't start "humming" then but did a little bit after, then stopped.

Again, I appreciate you time and trouble!

I guess what I mean is that you can hear it make noise, but doesn't STAY on. What would a "voltage problem" entail?

I do appreciate your time and help. I just feel like crying with this thing. all I did was clean it really well! I guess it didn't like that!

    Thanks,

Just check Your Compressor and fans.If the compressor is gone , big trouble man ,if both

compressor on refrig/freezer not working it

Sounds like you need to replace the thermostat which is located behind the refrig control knob

Tap on the knob and if the refrig starts , replace the control behind the knob .

    Regards at first.......
I understand the problem sir and we are definitely here to help you out.
Talking about tapping is just to inentify whether there is any loosening at control knob there .As you mentioned if you hear a humming sound as soon as you tap it , that means compressor is fine and problem is with knob.

It sounds like something starts "humming" in back and wants to go on but doesn't!
Please explain this observation again. If you want to say that Compressor is unable to start then this is a compressor or voltage problem i can assure you that

Caught it . It is a thermostat problem.that's why it started humming when you tapped it i think.
You can verify it By checking your fan . if it is a thermostat problem it should not be working and it will definitely end your concern

I believe that it will end the query.
Please Accept the solution and rate me if i helped you somewhat.
    Thanks

Whirlpool side by side with water and icemaker. My water works perfectly fine but my ice maker no longer produces ice. It runs but it's not getting any water to make ice. What can be done to fix this?

There are a couple reasons your icemaker will not fill with water.
First thing you want to check for is a frozen fill tube to the icemaker. The easiest way to check for a frozen line is to remove the icemaker. Once the icemaker is removed look for ice in the fill tube. If there is ice in the tube the (water valve) will need to be replaced. You can melt the ice by forcing hot water up the fill tube.
Another reason could be the icemaker is not sending voltage to the water valve. The fix for this issue is to replace the icemaker. Hope this helps you with your whirlpool fridge!

The reason to change the water valve with a frozen water line is because the solenoid is not closing all the way. This allows water to enter the fill tube of the icemaker and freeze based on the temperature.

My icemaker is not dumping the ice when it's frozen.

Replacing the icemaker is neither expensive nor hard. Order a replacement on the Internet.

Sounds like a malfunction in the icemaker itself.

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.

I have a Whirlpool refrige. side by side and the ice maker has stopped working. The infrared light keeps blinking. I have unplugged it a couple of times as well as turned the infrared off. Any advice?

The laser , is supposed to blink . This laser , tells the icemaker to stop making ice , when the bin is full . Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the icemaker . If it doesn't dump the cubes into the bin , the icemaker is bad . Or , if there is ice in the bin , which hasn't dumped , the icemaker is bad . If the icemaker dumps the ice ( from water pour ) , then look above the fill cup , and see if the black fill tube is frozen . If so , then replace the water valve and turn the freezer temp down slightly . It will take several days for this fill line inside freezer to thaw . If icemaker dumps , and black tube NOT frozen , replace the water valve . The valve , is where the wall water line connects to on the refrig

Icemaker quit working after I cleaned the coils.

After checking the fill tube (line that fills the icemaker) to make sure it's not frozen , pour about 3/4 cup of water into the icemaker . If the icemaker dumps the water but doesn't refill , replace the water inlet valve . If the icemaker doesn't dump the ice , replace the icemaker . ALSO , make sure the fan which cools the compressor is working . Possible when cleaning the coils , a glob of lint or something , was sucked into the fan and blocked the blade from turning .

Icemaker not working

In most cases, this will be a water valve inlet issue. check the water valves operational value. you can use a ohm or volt meter to test the terminal clips on the valve assembly. if the meter picks up resistance and the valve isn't allowing proper water flow, replace the valve Assembly asap.

Try using an hairdryer or defrosting the unit completely , this often get rid of blockage caused by frozen lines fixing the problem.

The water lines can also be unblocked from dirt using a thin flexible shaft. This after defrosting.

If all that does not fix the problem, then you may need to replace the water valve, the icemaker solenoid, or the whole icemaker assembly.

Ice machine not making ice

Hi, everak11,
Three possible solutions for you.
1: No water coming in from inlet valve. Check voltage on inlet if you have voltage and no water then replace valve.
2:Icemaker not cycleing. Lift the arm on the icemaker to shut it off and leave it for about an hour. Come back in and turn the icemake back on by lowering the arm. If the icemaker does not begin a new cycle and the arm start rising then the problem is most likely an icemaker. Replace Icemaker
3:Refrigerator not cold enough. If the freezer is not getting cold enough the icemaker will not cycle. Check the temperature in the freezer and make sure it is getting down to 0 degrees. If not then you may have another problem with your refrigerator. I hope this helps you, Let me know if you have any other questions or symptoms. Mike
