Question about Frigidaire Washing Machines
I got this frigidaire washing machine from a friend. He said the washer had been hit by lightning through the power lines knocking the timer out. i replaced the timer but the washer still won't cycle through as it should. Is there any other part that would affect the cycling of the timer. If I manually turn the timer through the steps the washer will fill/oscillate, turn slightly again and it drains, turn another click or so it spins, then turn a few more clicks(according to the dial on front of the machine) it will fill/oscillate, and a few more clicks manually it will drain then force click it to spin and force it to stop. The machine on spin cycle will not spin all the water out of the clothes. Any information will be appreciated before I discard the machine in lieu of buying another.

Tips for a great answer:
Hello friend, thank you for your post!
I understand that your Frigidaire washer will not wash or spin. Typically if your washer is not spinning it could be a potential issue with your drain hose. I would check to assure that there are no kinks in your drain line or that the drain hose is not too long. Those could be some possibilities.
If the drain line is clear you could be experiencing an issue with your timer or drain pump. I would recommend seeking assistance from a professional to come out and properly diagnosis your washer. I hope this helps. -Matt

Hello friend, thank you for your inquiry!
Based off the information you have provided you are hearing a squeaking noise during the wash rinse cycle on your Frigidaire washer. You could be hearing the noise from your motor during that operation, this is normal. Additionally, if you feel that this is noise an issue I would contact a professional to come out and diagnose your appliance properly. -Matt

Hello friend, thanks for your post!
I understand that your Frigidaire top load washer, GLWS1740AS4, will spin but not agitate. It sounds like it could be an issue with the timer not allowing the cycle to advance or it could be an issue with the transmission in your washer. I would advise seeking additional assistance from a technician who could come out and diagnose the appliance properly, since it could one of two issues. Hopefully this is helpful. -Matt

Hello fopdycke - Typically when a washer does not spin, it is because the unit cannot properly drain and dispose of the water and detergent solution. Does the unit make a humming noise? If so, the drainage pump or hose may be clogged and needs to be cleaned. If not, the washer may possibly be experiencing an issue with the door lock assembly, timer, faulty pump or control board not communicating correctly. I would personally contact a professional to accurately diagnose the washer to determine the root cause to reduce the risk of unnecessary parts.

Hello Dorothy - Does the drain pump make a humming noise? If so, there may be a restriction in the drain line or siphoning. Otherwise since it is such a complex unit I would recommend contacting a professional to have either the pump or timer diagnose.

If the unit is washing properly, as far as you can tell, but it won't stop spinning, then I would have a professional look at the control panel and timer to be diagnosed because there seems to be in miscommunication.
