Xerox XD100 showing an L6 status code - something to do with the laser motor(?). How do I repair? Or, do I junk the machine? (I'd prefer not to.)

Please give me some guidance as to how to get into machine to check on the laser motor. I am very handy doing this sort of work, but hate to attack it one way when I should go into it another way. I would appreciate a several step procedure, e.g., remove such and such panel to access motor, etc.

    Thanks for your help.

The solution was so-so. I replied that I would appreciate more definitive instructions on how to get into the machine - and received nothing in reply. :-( I would have answered by directing me to a website where step by step instructions and drawings were available. The attempted repair was a long and time-consuming process. I overhauled the laser module, but it still didn't work right. I ended up junking the 10-year old machine - which is what I should have done in the first place. :^)

The L6 error code is:

The Main PWB sensed a Polygon motor lock signal error that is related to the mirror motor within the laser. The laser most likely needs to be replaced

L6 is a Polygon motor (drives the laser) problem.

Problem with the laser mirror that spins inside the laser unit. Sometimes these become dirty and stick and need a drop of oil. If it still fails, you can replace the polygon motor. It costs around 30-50 bucks.

Workcentre xd 120f L6 problem

L6 indicates, the polygon mirror motor in the laser is not running or being detected. It is a motor inside the laser that has 8 mirrors on it. It spins to create the scanned image.
Most likely the last unit would have to be replaced.
You can UNPLUG THE MACHINE, remove the back cover and unplug and replug the main board connectors to see if that cures the problem.
The laser cable that can cause that code is a flat, ribbon cable. I suspect the laser unit though.
I looked it up. The laser is a spared part. But the price is over $250 , most are over $300 new, I would not recommend a used laser.
That also is not an easy replacement. You have to seperate the scanner from the main frame of the machine to replace. If your up to it I can provide you directions. E-mail me at rak458@aol.com

Xerox XD100 that is showing a code J2

No. The CRUM is integral to the Drum Cartridge. The only way would be to swap CRUM from a cartridge that failed for a reason other that it reached end of life.

I have Xerox XD100. Machine is very noise. The noise is coming from back of machine. Sand like motor is turning but something is stock (can not moveThis motor look like suppose to move)

There is a small helix gear attached to the shaft of the main drive motor. It cracks or shreads on the inside. You will have to replace the main motor. Not real expensive or difficult to replace.

Xerox XD 100 has L 6 appearing Nothing in the book about it.

L6 indicates a problem with the laser. Ususlly the problem is a worn out motor that rotates the mirrors in the laser.
I have seen a couple of times, the ribbon cable that connects to the main board from the laser just have poor connection. You can take the back off the machine and reset the connectors on the main board. But more than likely the laser will need to be replaced.I looked it up, and there are 2 different lasers for that machine. The prices are between $300 and $400. Wish I had better news for you. It is also not an easy replacement.

    Guest.
The L6 indicates the machine is not seeing the motor in the laser, that rotates the mirrors.
There are 3 possibilities, I will list them in order of probability.
    1 The Laser unit itself.
    2. The cable connection on the Main Board.
    3. The Main Board itself.
The laser depending on the lens, Curved or straight is $323 and $393.
the main board will cost in the $250-$400 range depending on the vendor.
    That is without labor.
