Question about Canon Cameras

1 Answer

I have a Canon PowerSHot A510. It will not come on. I have replaced the batteries with new rechargeable batteries and it still wont come on. I have tried cleaning the battery terminals and no luck. The memory card is still okay because it works in another camera that I have. What do you think is wrong with it.

Have you checked the little switch for the battery door, along with the little plastic push-piece that closes the switch?

Canon Powershot A510 will not remember the date setting. I have replaced the date battery, and still no luck. Any ideas?

If you look inside the clock battery slot, you'll see two contact points where the battery makes contact. They should be bright and shiny. If you notice any discoloration or corrosion, consider trying to clean with a nail file or emory board (or whatever you feel might remove that corrosion). Also, consider placing a small piece of cardboard directly under the battery in its holder to raise it up a bit, possibly improving contact with the upper connector. Good luck!

How do I open the camera to load the batteries?

Hi

The Canon PowerShot A510 has a battery cover on the bottom of the camera. There is a battery cover lock on the compartment which needs to be unlocked. Holding the camera upside down with the battery compartment closest to your body the left hand AA battery is placed into the camera Postitive up - with the right hand AA the opposite.

Hope this helps

This normally means the batteries are all but flat. Try a recharge or a new set of quality AA alkalines before looking for any other solution. High capacity NiMH rechargeables are the best battery, but they won't recharge forever.

I have a CANON powershot a510 and it doesnt even turn on...

Here's some thing to try for a camera that won't power on.

For your camera, there's a tiny white slide switch on the battery door that closes when the door is closed. Make sure that the switch isn't damaged. Also check the little plastic nib on the battery door that pushes on the switch when the door is closed.

It keeps asking me to change the batteries

If you haven't already, buy rechargeable batteries. I used to have the same problem. If you are using regular batteries, there juice is used up very quickly. I use Energizer rechargeable batteries and they recharge in 15 minutes. Also you'll have to buy the charger as well. I hope this helps your problem.

Camera won't turn on

Here are some simple things to try first for a camera that won't power on. They won't work for every case, but they're worth a try:

Canon PowerShot A510 "change the batteries"

Take a look at the following recall advisory for the A530/A540.

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=221&modelid=12914&keycode=2111&id=28800

Look closely at the second picture. Does the spring on your battery door stick out and overlap/touch the metal battery contact plate as shown in the second picture? If so, affix a small piece of tape to the contact plate between the plate and the spring to insulate the plate from the spring. Make sure that the spring should not be able to directly touch the plate, and is shielded by the tape.

Note that currently Canon has not included the A510 in the recall, but if you experience this problem, this fix should correct it.
