Question about LG Dishwashers

Open Question

Hi I have a LG dishwasher, model LD-2052WH/LD-2052SH/LD-2052MH. The machine is about 30 months old, and used very seldom. In the last two weeks we noticed a very loud "grinding" sound emmiting from the machine. This sound usually happens when you switch the machine on as the water if filling or the wash blades are rotating. What is the cause of this, and how can I get it fixed? SOURCE: Dishwasher Does Not Cycle

IA, these GE pumps have a habit of sticking if the unit hasn't been run for a while. First you want to verify that the motor is in fact getting power, this will eliminate the timer. You can use a meter on the quik connect from the motor while in the wash cycle. If the motor is getting power, see if the pump is stuck by turning the motor vanes (Do this with the power off). If it's hard to turn and then frees up than this was more than likley your problem. You remove the bottom toe panel and will be able to check this out without removing the dishwasher. Looks like the pump motor is drawing lot of current and tripping the circuit breaker. Need to check if there is any water inside it. Or simply the capacitor is leaky and causes motor to draw current.

LG dishwasher LDF6920ST - Power button lights up but the cycle buttons stopped working so the unit wont turn on to wash. The Power Scrub cycle button seems to be pressed down farther than the other...

Hi Mark.

Modern LG appliances retain settings even after you disconnect the power cord. The machine is reset opening the door and then pressing and holding the Normal and Delicate buttons at the same time for 3 seconds.

You can also try running the test mode shown at page 12 of the service manual.

If the machine is non responding and there is no code on display, then the problem is likely control module or control pad. Since the control pad looks defective, that is probably the part to replace.

Disassembling is shown in exploded view and service manual available using the links below:

Parts and diagrams are available here.

A copy of the service manual covering several LD models has been uploaded here.

So frustrated - LG dishwasher washes 5 minutes then shows OE code - have cleaned drains, sump pump, out let pipes. Still doing it. ONly 9 months old..... My old dishwasher worked for 10 years.......

Hi there Diane OE on your display relates to the water draining system (water is not pumped away). the diashwasher is not seeing the water drain away. Dishwashers start by draining before they take on fresh water. Start your dishwasher and listen for a pumping noise from the waste pump if you dont hear any noise it may be the pump is blocked or faulty. please advise if this helps kind regards gary.

Our 3 month old machine started making a high pitched squeel the other day during the wash cycle. Now it has started on the rinse cycle on the Quick setting. Model LD149.

I share your frustration with the same machine. Mine is approx 3-4 months old and within the first month i had a leak at the base of the machine which was fixed under warranty. The following month the machine started leaving water in the base of the unit after the wash cycle was complete. LG claim it is an electronic fault in the circuit board. I have refused repair and am now claiming a replacement with them. I don't feel it is acceptable for a machine that's only 3months old to give problems such as these.

broken door cord. remove side panels and relace. this is a cheap and easy fit. make sure you replace both sides at the same time, you will most likely find it is only one side broken at this stage, but the cords do not last very long.<!-- from fixya rte -->

LG Dishwasher Model LD-1403W gets stuck and stops on rinse cycle leaving water in bottom of machine. I have stripped it down and emptied it, made sure filters etc are clean but to no avail

LG Dishwasher LD 1403W. We have cleaned it and when it gets to the heating cycle after running right through to nearly the end, it trips all the electricity and stops everything. Its only 3 years old and hubby thinks its the heating element but between $200=$300 to fix.

E1 error on LG - LD-4120M

E1 is a common error in the LG Dishwasher range and is usually caused by the failure of the circulation pump and/or the impeller.

The motor and impeller are a complete unit.

Often what happens is the impeller breaks on the motor shaft and doesn't spin, therefore doesn't pump water.

There is a pressure sensor which indicates the lack of pressure and shuts the machine down with the E1 error being displayed.

The lack of pressure can also be from a water leak (as the owners manual suggests) also a controller PCB fault may produce an E1 error, however, the pump problem is extremely common.

Unfortunately, I have had 5 pumps die in 4 years and my dishwasher is only used about 4 times a week.
