Question about Epson Stylus Photo R1800 InkJet Printer

3 Answers

My r1800 will not print. it pulls the paper in, and throws it out without printing. I tried spraying canned air in the back, which has helped in the past, but doesn't help this time. When I called Epson with the problem a while back, they ran the printer through some tests and determined it had to be taken in for repair. I was able to make it work after that by spraying canned air in the back. Now not working again.

I was able to run a nozzle check, and all looked fine. Also was able to print a test page, but it took 4 tries to print 2. But it will not take the heavy watercolor paper and do any printing on it.

I got advice to do a print head cleaning, but the print head nozzle check yesterday was fine. Also, Epson told me I can't run the print cleaning paper through this printer. Any other advice on how to get it to print on paper?

It looks like your comment got cut off at the end?
I don't understand if the capillaries are blocked, why the nozzle check I was able to print looked fine?

This problem with paper pulling in and not printing has to do with a corrupted printer driver. You will need to uninstall and then reinstall the Epson Stylus R1800 printer driver, click on the link below and select your operating system to get started:

Based on the description i identified the problem.
Definitely it is the cappilaries that feed the ink in the print head are blocked and that's why printer is behaving like this.
Further spraying canned air in the back momentarily solved the problem due to this reason only.

To clean the cappilaries you require a service as you cannot do this yourself

Thanks......
and don't worry because this is quite normal so a service will definitely do

Your color print head might need to be cleaned. Try first to clean it using the software diagnostics that came with the printer & that should be already installed on your computer.
If this did not help, buy an inkjet printer cleaning kit from a computer store & clean the print head using the liquid & the swabs included in the kit. Follow the usage instructions that are included in the cleaning kit carefully.

Epson R1800 Print head wiper blade

Just because the Wiper blade is not visible when the carriage is off to the left it does not mean it is not there. Epson R1800 has automated retractable system that will pull the wiper out when needed and then hide it away.
You might be able to access it manually only at certain cycle point while unplugging the power in mid cycle. I saw the thing after removing the print head for cleaning. Have a snapshot of it. Covered in hardened gunk. My problem was that after cleaning and reassembly printer will initiate properly, park the head but when attempting to print on paper or CD it would shut off. In paper mode the carriage moves all the way to the left and turns off the moment it tries to pull paper in. The green light goes off, when power button is lightly touched it will recover, go through the cycle and repeat the same when another print job is sent to it. While in CD print mode it shuts of while the carriage is on the right side and is getting ready to pull the CD tray in. I'm thinking the data-ribbon was still moist from head soaking, drying and spraying it with compressed air was not sufficient. Somehow it screwed up the communication/head alignment procedure. Will get back to it and report if I'll get any positive results. Any input will be appreciated of course. Seen few post with the same exact result of a print head cleaning attempt. It seems Epson designed those things to fail one way or another. First you go through a set or two of cartridges just to get rid of the constant clogging, when that does not work and you try to clean it it will fail in some other fashion, unbelievable. Last Epson I ever bought. They will bleed you dry, while frustrating and annoying the hell out of you in the meantime. To those neah sayers, yes I am using OEM carts, and no R1800 is not some econo class printer you throw away after 1 yr. I have actually payed $560 for it, betting it will last. 8x$14 each time carts need to be replaced and more of them got drained in constant cleaning cycles then actually printing. Got few months of semi successful performance, then nothing but problems. Stay away people ! "Made in Japan" no longer stands for anything. Shame on you Epson !

Trying to print on a #10 envelope from iMac 27 with Os 10.5.1 using iWork. Printer will not load paper

I am on an iMac using OSX 10.5.8 and printing on an Epson R1800. With iWork, word processing module I set up the envelope to print and under the File menu, select page setup and choose #10 Envelope with Portrait orientation. I feed the envelope into the printer in the normal horizontal, top first, print surface up. In the File menu I select Print and hit Return. Most of the time this works. Sometimes the envelope feeds through without printing, and occasionally the envelope won't feed but the printer goes through the printing cycle. The R1800 is not the ideal envelope printer. It is made to print photos on photographic paper. I use an old fashioned typewriter to address envelopes.

Epson R1800: printing 13x19" velvet paper. hand feeding into rear of printer. keeps saying eror, or paper jam or ... then finally just spits the paper through and out.

why print velvet paper? the problem is the velvet would be too thick and it would jam the print heads because when they run over the paper it would pull the velvet and it would get jammed i don`t think you should print velvet

When I press print on the computer, the Epson R1800 just sends the paper through the printer without printing on the paper.

It may have taken care of itself. Problem occurred when I was using letter sized sheets. Switched to 11x17 sheets and after running a couple of these through the printer, it started to print again.

Paper doesn't always feed, and when it does, the paper rolls through without printing

Get a Q-Tip and alcohol. Wet Q-tip with alcohol. Stand in front of the printer and look down where the paper feeds through. On the righthand side you will see a big roller that pulls the paper through and a little one right up under that. Clean both of them with the alcohol and Q-tip. Press the paper feed button and as it trys to act like it is feeding the paper, clean the roller with the Q-tip. Do this until the paper feeds through correctly.

When printing to an Epson R1800 have a problem

Make sure the paper size is not set to US letter sheetfeeder borderless use just US letter. the borderless function slightly enlarges document content to ensure that it bleeds overthe edge. If your has a bleed, use in page setup - US letter sheetfeeder borderless - In the print dialog box click printer button which brings up a warning about using a different settings dialog box, - continue on to the r1800 print dialog box. about midway down is a pull down menu - choose expansion and adjust it to the lowest setting. if your printout does not bleed to the edge bump the expansion adjustment up 1 measure.

Epson R1800 refuses fine art papers

Hi Fruitless, Last night I was tearing my hair out trying to get my R1800 to accept some Hahnemuhle Satin 310, and it was just passing through and passing through. About once in 20 trys it would finally print. I was in the middle of making up my own paper profiles for this lovely paper. Anyway, I gave up at about 1:30 am, and went to bed. Today I resumed my attack, and guess what fella, there is a solution. Pass this on to everyone. You did not say what version of Photo Shop you were using. I just got my CS3 a week ago, and if you are using it, you can open a photo for printing. Go to Printing Preferences Dialog Box, > click on Maintenance Tab, and then click on the Bottom button that is labeled as Printer & Options Information. The Printer and Options Dialog Box opens, and there at the bottom is a box that says Thick Paper right beside it. Select or check this box and enjoy yourself thereafter. I did not see this in the User's Guide, but knew there had to be an answer to this problem somewhere. No problems ever since. Best of luck.
