When the backlight does not stay on for more than a second, the problem is usually the backlight power supply board failure. Typical failures are blown capacitors, or transistors. A electronic repair shop should be able to fix it.

Look for bad caps with domed tops as shown in my pictures here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/SCEPTRE/Sceptre%20X7G/
should repalce the caps in a set.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/

I have a Sceptre X7G Komodo II 17" LCD monitor/built-in speakers

You would need to connect the speakers to your computer. There should be a little jack on the back of the monitor marked audio. This will need to be connected to your soundcard jack for front speakers. Once this cable is connected you should have sound from your speakers. Hope this helps.

Hello MG_bhe,

Yup, you definitley need the drivers. Here is a link you can go to and purchase the original restore disc. All you have to do is find your model (they do list Toshiba). http://www.restoredisks.com/

Also here is a link to the Toshiba Driver download page, just have to pick your model.

Here is a link to a free software for Toshib'a that will automatically update your drivers for you.
