Hi. My HP PD1200s recently has stopped working. My PC has stopped recognising it. It operates on a Windows XP operating system and I am struggling to find a driver that I can download that will work on my operating system. Appreciate any help.

Can you tell me when a colt anaconda serial number MM51530 was made?

http://www.colt.com/Customer-Services/Serial-Number-Lookup

doesn't list the Anaconda for serial 51530. There are some great scanned images from the Colt Catalogue here though and it would be a good place to ask as someone may have the book.

What personal media drive will fit the HP m 1190n media bay. Will any fit or are they part number specific? Thank you

Not sure what you mean by personal media player.

1) If its an Ipod or any MP3 player, you should be able to connect any via a USB cable, or directly plugged in.

2) if you mean CD or DVD drive/player like the one that came with it, they're generic, any with the correct interface (IDE or SATA) Though I think SATA in this case.

Here's a URL with the full specification of your system to help:-

http://www.shopping.hp.com/shopping/data_sheet/pj467aa.htm

If you mean the "personal media bay" listed here, I think were back to a generice CD/DVD drive.

My son in law is trying to save some files from his Mac notebook to a HP PD0800 pocket media drive. Does he need a special driver?

If he only wants to use HP pocket drive with the MAC, then he needs to format the pocket drive with the MAC notebook.
If he wants to exchange files between the MAC and a PC, then he needs to format the pocket drive with a PC. The pocket drive needs to be formatted in FAT32.
A MAC will then be able to read and copy PC files in FAT32 format.

Hi, HP Pocket Media drives work like regutalr external hard drives, in fact, the bring an usb cable so you can connect it to any computer, not just HPs with the media bay. Are you using the HP bay or the USB cable? Regardless, after you connect the hard drive and go to my computer and see if it shows up. If it does, just select the files and do a copy and paste to the new hard drive. I dont know if you are having problems with the software it might have or the fact that it doesnt show up on the computer, but like I said you would handle it like a regular hard drive. I hope this helsp

How to build an 500GB into a RF244AA (HP PD1200s)-Case ? I cant find a servicemanual

From what I can see from HP's site, the Pocket Drive isn't a user serviceable device. Generally, this is the case with all portable hard drives. I haven't dealt with the PD1200, but I have taken apart a few others and generally the construction is rather simple.
If the chassis has any screws remove them and then you should be able to seprerate the case halves (Sometimes, if the case has rubber feet, the screws are under the feet) if the case has no screws, (Like the western digital drives) then is it s snap together case and you have to very carefully pry the case apart.
Once open, there should be an adapter board and the drive, gently seperate the drive from the board and connect the new drive then re-assemble and test the drive.
Here are the documents available on the drives:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?product=3245305&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en〈=en&cc=us
but they do not appear to be helpful as far as the internal workings.

My pc stop recognizing hp pocket media model PD1200s. How do i recover the data. It is only 3 months old and very important data is in the hard disk. Kindly assist. tq kumar

Hi,

The solution, assuming it is the shell is pretty simple. First one relevant question, have you tried attaching the drive to a different USB port or to a different computer?

If not try these first. If it works on a different USB port usually it's just that the harness at the back of the media bay has popped loose. If it doesn't, try it on a different PC, if it works the driver for it is likely corrupted on your PC if it doesn't the drive IS the problem.

Assuming the drive is the problem, run down to you local computer store, they will not have the same drive shell but should have similar one that they can transfer your drive into for a fraction of the drives price. Once it has been transfer to the new shell they can test it on one of their computers to see if it was the shell or the drive that failed.

If the new shell doesn't solve the problem you will most likely need to send the HDD for professional recovery. To do so, search Armor-IT on FixYa's directory of professionals and contact them about recovering files from your HDD they are one of the more affordable providers and operate in Canada servicing most of north america.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Post back if you need any clarification

Chris
ps just a note, opening the pocket media drive to transfer shells WILL void it's warranty.
