Question about Hifonics Brutus BXi 1206D Car Audio Amplifier

Open Question

Purchased a new ifonics 1206d amp and new subwoofer. had all installed professionally by local sound store. amp would go into protection shortly after leaving store. brought back and they told me amp or subs were "possibly" bad and wanted to chg 50.00 to check it. declined his offer. after few days, amp started cutting off...wiggled small 18g remote wire and amp would come on and off. brought it back to them, they restripped wire and reinstated it. worked for awhile, then stopped. now when remote wire is inside, the amp powers on, but no sound from sub. any sugg?

SOURCE: sub making horrible thumping garbage sounds

you need an noise filter in line. It's been a few years since I've had a system but I had the same problem. High power amps like the one you have can actually pick up on the electric pulses from your ignition system. I think I got mine at walmart, or auto zone, somewhere like that. Their pretty cheap too. I don't remember how its hooked up, but If you know how to hook and amp up, this should be no problem.

i would check the speaker cables to see if something came disconnected first maybe wire i touching other terminal shorted out the channels output .

run a new set of rca cable to see if one use are bad . check to see if rca cables pluged into right output of radio . check to see if your remote wire is powering up the amp to turn on the amp ..

will still light up with battery power but will never put output to the speakers with out the remote turn from the radio ... how to check this is to disconnect the cable at the amp and take a short 18 gauge wire and strip both ends and touch the battery terminal at the amp terminal one end the other end where the remote wire is mounted on the amp if do this for a few seconds to see what happens or better yet buy a digital volt meter and check for 12volt a the remote wire when you turn on your radio

If you actuate the subwoofer by hand, do you hear any scraping sounds?

It's possible the voice-coil is rubbing and tripping the amplifiers protection.

Try the amp on a different sub.

Subwoofers won't work and they are brand new

Hello,

I've got a pair of these MTX's subs powered from a Fusion 450 watt 2-channel amp. For the price, they are great. By the way, they are 4-ohm.

My first suspicion would be that something in the first incorrect wiring damaged either the amp or the subs. Can you explain specifically what the "installing the subs incorrectly" means? Was the amp output shorted out at any time or was it operated without a load? Either of these conditions will fry an amp and sometimes, the protection circuitry doesn't work either.

First make sure that your amp is still working. Check both the primary power fuse, usually located near the vehicle battery, and the fuses on both sides of the amp. Make sure that when you turn the system on, the power light comes on steady (blinking is protection mode). Test your subs one at a time on a speaker output.

If the amplifier goes into protect when there are no speaker wires connected to the amp, the amp is likely defective. The most likely culprit is shorted output transistors. If it's new, return it to the place of purchase for repair/replacement.
