Yes it is normal because the printer is not shipped with preinstalled cartriges in the printer, it must have been shipped with a black ink toner cartrige and you can print upto 1000 pages using that.

Keeps saying insert colour cartridge when we have just bought a new cartridge of correct spec. Says incorrect colour cartridge installed.Impossible to get past!!!

Hi,The most common reason for missing or incorrect colors is a print cartridge with one of the following problems:
  • One or more of the ink colors is empty. The black ink and all three colors of ink in the tri-color cartridge must be available or colors will be incorrect or missing. Under normal usage, the print cartridge will run low on one color of ink shortly before all ink colors are emptied.
  • The protective tape is not removed from a new cartridge.
  • Contacts on the cartridge are not making proper contact with the print carriage.
  • The cartridge is remanufactured or refilled.
  • The cartridge is defective.

Not sensing the ink cartridge

In this scenario you should check with a new set of black cart or you can try by cleaning the cart with a lint free cloth. and try with resetting the printer as well. if it doesnt work then printer might have gone bad

My hp officejet j4580 says incompatible black ink cartridge

I've been in print cartridge hell since I bought a J4580.

I spent an hour on chat with HP customer service and was able to resolve the problem by partially resetting the printer. Here's how:
  • Make sure your print cartridges are installed.
  • Unplug the machine, wait 20 seconds
  • Press and hold the # and 3 keys
  • Plug the machine back in
  • You'll see a reset message on the machine, release the # and 3 keys
  • Follow the prompts to set the language and location
Cross your fingers, hopefully your printer will print now!

I just purchased an HP Photosmart C7200 All-in-one printer, loaded the ink cartridges and the screen says the magenta cartridge appears to be missing or damaged. I put in a new cartridge- same message...

Hi

If the printer is out of the Box, don not try any other ink cartridges, becoz you must use the HOST ink cartridges that is shipped with the printer for the first time.It seems that it is problem with Host ink cartridge.

You can check the cartridge whether its a Host ink cartridge or normal one by looking at the serial number. If Serial number starts with C9, it Host; if it starts with C8 its normal one.

Only HP can replace it , none of the store sells Host ink cartridges, they sell the replacement ones.
You can either call HP tech support or, return the printer to staples.

Thank You

Problem with new ink cartridge

More that likely the refilled ink cartridges are faulty and should be replaced. While some folks have pretty good luck with refilled cartridges, it is generally better to stick with the new ones.

As to the problem with old cartridges, keep in mind that the estimated ink levels are just that - estimates. However, if your printer has an option for cleaning the cartridges, try that before chunking them. Take them out, put them back in, and run the cleaning process. Sometimes the nozzles can get clogged up and running the cleaning process will clear them up. ( DO NOT TRY TO CLEAN THE CARTRIDGES MANUALLY!)

If none of this helps, you will more than likely just need to get some new cartridges. - Graye

Printer cartridge stalled

Have you put in new ink cartridges?

Get the printer to move the carriage away from the side where it normally rests. Look inside there, and beneath the rest area, sometimes there is a little rubber stamp that presses up against the cartridges. It usually is filled with dry ink. Take a wet paper tower (probably several of them) and try to get as much ink as you can up. Also, there is sometimes a little rubber wiper that cleans the printhead as it passes by. Make sure this is clean also.

Now take the cartridges out. Get another clean paper towel, sopping with water. Press the nozzels down against it, but don't wipe. Just dab them, until you're getting some solid lines of ink on the towel.

Then look for the pattern of copper colored dots on the cartridge. Clean this with alcohol, and then look inside the printer where these dots (contacts) would line up inside the carriage. There will be a smilar pattern of dimples. Clean these with alcohol, and let it dry.

If possible, you might want to try to fit a towel damp with water beneath the print carriage (where the paper runs through).  This collects a lot of ink sometimes.  Be careful not to force anything.
Finally, put it all back together and try your print.

Thankyou,
