Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore Elite electric dryer model 110.85866.400. It runs but won't heat. I entered the self diagnostic mode by pressing More Dry, Less Dry, More Dry, Less Dry. All lights came on and 88 showed in time left. Then I hit Start and 08 shows in the display. Is 08 an error code? What does it mean? What is wrong without the dryer. Thanks.

It is not an error code but a project ID code and it appears when the Start button is pressed during the Diagnostic Mode. Redo the activation of the Diagnostic Mode then do not touch any button after "88" is displayed. Error codes will be displayed if there's any.

The Diagnostic Mode cannot be used to test a fault in the heating circuit when the dryer does not heat up. Actual test of the heating circuit components such as continuity testing or resistance reading is necessary to determine fault. Disconnect power then remove the front bottom panel to access the heater housing. Once the panel is off, test the continuity of the thermal cut-off and the high-limit thermostat. You can simply bypass them if you have no tool for testing continuity. Join the wires of each together and insulate them properly then plug in and start the dryer. Replace both the thermal cut-off and the high-limit thermostat if the dryer heats up. If not, take the heating element out and closely inspect it for any broken coil. Replace the heating element if it has broken coil part. Never attempt to repair the heating element, you have to replace it.

How do you start diagnostic on kenmore elite smartheat quiet pak 9 HE4 dryer?

Hope this helps
By Manage My LifeDecember 30th, 2011
Kenmore Elite Dryer HE4 Quietpak 9 Model 110.85091400 has 4 dim lights showing on the console display but won't start or respond
Our dryer just quit working yesterday and I am puzzled. There are four lights very dimly lit on the display. They are the Casual button, the Timed Dry button and two of the segments in the oval time window. I have found the information online about how to test with a multimeter to try and figure out which board is bad. Unfortunately all these instructions require you to have the dryer in the diagnostic mode by pressing the More Time/Less Time/More Time/Less Time in less than 5 seconds. When we do this it does nothing and will not enter the diagnostic mode. When I am testing with the multimeter on the P3/P4 connections I am not getting any readings of voltage at all. Is this because of not being able to get into the diagnostic mode? Should I still be getting readings? I know we have power to the dryer because the light still turns on when you open the door. The cost of buying both the main control board and the front console are prohibitive for us and I would like to only buy the one that is bad. I have also tried the testing with the multimeter on the front console buttons and also get no readings of ohms at all. We have a very busy household with lots of kids and this dryer is very essential to us so the quicker we can get this fixed the better. Thank you in advance for your help.

Our ken ore elite dishwasher 66513423k701 clean button flashes 6 times pauses and flashes once. We did have a problem with the dishwasher dumping water all the floor and discovered the discharge pump was...

It sounds like you just need to reset the controller. This is done by running (or partially running) a diagnostic cycle, which will clear the error. Here's how to do it: Depending on the model, and the keys you have, press the following sequence of keys quickly (with less that 1 second between key presses:
Heated Dry - Normal - Heated Dry - Normal; or
High Temp - Air Dry - High Temp - Air Dry; or
Hi Temp Scrub, Energy Saver Dry, Hi Temp Scrub, Energy Saver Dry; or
High Temp Wash, Heated Dry, High Temp Wash, Heated Dry.
You will know that you have entered the diagnostic cycle when all the lights light up. Let it run for a few minutes, and then press Cancel to stop the diagnostic cycle and clear the error.

Note: On some of the newer Whirlpool, Kenmore, KitchenAid dishwashers, you start the diagnostic cycle by rapidly pressing the 3 left-most keys in the following sequence: 1 2 3, 1 2 3, 1 2 3.

My kenmore elite #110.73012181 electric dryer with autonsense feature no longer sensing, keeps on drying for hours after clothes dry when on less dry mode or normal dry mode

The drying circuit has to have a sensor to control heat and the timer controls time (on timed drying). Often sensors fail "open" and dryers stop drying. This sensor or the circuit seems to have failed closed (runs all the time). I suspect the sensor has failed in the drying control.

I need to reset my Kenmore Elite dishwasher but i don't know how.

follow the below instructions:

Unlock your Kenmore dishwasher control panel by pressing and holding the "Heated Dry" button for four seconds.

Press a series of four buttons in quick succession. Press "Heated Dry," "Normal Wash," "Heated Dry" and "Normal Wash" to instruct your Kenmore dishwasher to run a short diagnostic test

Wait for two minutes while your Kenmore dishwasher runs its diagnostic test.

Press the "Cancel/Drain" button once your dishwasher has completed its diagnostic test. This should reset your dishwasher control panel and stop the "Clean" light from blinking repeatedly.
Good luck.

Kenmore HE4 Dryer leaves clothes wet

From the techincal document found in the dryer bottom panel

TEST #4a Dryness Level Adjust

NOTE: If the customer is complaining about the clothes being damp and the moisture sensor passes TEST #4 "Moisture Sensor Test- step 3, then the total dry time can be lengthened by changing from a "Lo" for short auto cycle to "Hi" for longer auto cycle.

1. Activate the Diagnostic Test Mode. Press the following button sequence: MORE TIME ~ LESS TIME -+ MORE TIME --+ LESS TIME - all within 5 seconds

1. In diagnostic test mode, press and hold the Auto Dry Level key for 5 seconds. The dryer will beep and the current auto cycle mode will be seen on the display. The factory default setting is "Lo".

1. To select a different auto cycle mode, press the Auto Dry Level key again. The dryer display will flash and show either "Hi" or "Lo"

1. With the display flashing the selected auto cycle mode press the Start key to save the setting and exit diagnostics (the Start key in this mode does not start a drying cycle). The result will be stored in EEPROM of the control board.
