Thunderstorm can zap electronic parts, you may need to repair and replace some internal parts. Or replace your box with a new one.

during thunder storm, is your TV connected to wall outlet, if it so your set have a problem on power supply, you are lucky if is only a blown fuse.

Tv is 4 years old yesterday it lost its built in freeview channels. when trying to get the menu up it appears for a second then goes off. Tv still receives sky and picture is good

It's possibly a defective digital tuner, but the vanishing menu suggests a more serious (and expensive) fault with the main/AV board, assuming it's an LCD TV. It's impossible to be certain which one without doing some testing, but due to the inherent dangers with high-voltage electronics, I don't advise on self-repair for TVs.

If you're looking for an inexpensive solution and the TV is no longer covered by any warranty, I'd suggest buying an external Freeview box to connect to your TV. This would also enable you to upgrade to Freeview HD. Being 4 years old, your TV will not have been fitted with a DVB-T2 (Freeview HD) tuner.

If you want to try this solution, I can recommend the following box, which is great value at just £25.

They are described as "reconditioned", but I've bought and installed 2 of these for my own customers recently and both have been brand-new. The majority of these are unused returns which Tesco are consequently not allowed to sell described as "new". For a lesser known brand, I've been quite impressed with some of the recent Technika products and they are easy to install and come supplied with all the necessary cables, etc. Additionally, if it doesn't work for any reason, you will be able to return it under UK Distance Selling regulations.

Before purchasing this (or any other) Freeview HD box, please check your TV has a spare HDMI input socket as SCART cannot carry an HD signal. If you don't have a spare HDMI socket, I'd also check your TV has a spare SCART input socket or you will need to disconnect your Sky box every time you want to use the Freeview box - which brings me to my final point . . .

. . . Off the top of my head, I can't think of any Freeviews channels which aren't available on Sky, so as long as you can still use your TV for Sky, do you really need to spend any money on it?

My VCR/DVD, freeview box and non digital tv will show prerecorded video and DVD but will not record (or if it has it will not display). Could it be that the set up is not wired up correctly? The freeview...


Unless the Freeview box has two tuners then your going to have problems anyway when you want to record something and watch the non-digital TV at the same time. The solution is simple get another Freeview box (they are around £10 at the moment on E-Buyer.Com) get a box like this:


grubhead_17.jpg Available on Amazon (Scart switching box). This plugs into the TV or you can connect via one of the freeview boxes. Whatever works best.
The VCR has the other Freeview box connected to the second scart. (select AV2 when setting the channel to record and set the box to the channel you want to record) the first scart from the VCR plugs into the above box. When you want to watch press the switch.
By the way if the VCR has PDC on it set it to off, as it no longer works with digital.

I cant make the freeview box work without the operating instructions


OK - please follow these instructions carefully to setup the Freeview box. If you get stuck at any point in the instructions - or anything I've said doesn't make sense or match what you can see - just post another message here and I'll deal with each problem as it arises.

1. Switch the TV and Freeview box to STANDBY. There should be a red light on the Freeview box;
2. Connect the aerial cable to the freeview box. Make sure you are connecting this to the correct socket. This should be labelled "RF IN", "IN" or "Aerial/Antenna". If you have connected to a socket marked "RF/TV OUT" or "TO TV" or something similar, it wont work;
3. Connect the SCART cable to Freeview box and the back of the TV;
4. Switch the TV on;
5. Switch the Freeview box on - you should get a green light on the front of the box;

Most TVs will automatically switch to the external input when a SCART device is switched on while the TV is already on. This is why you should switch the TV on first.

At this point you should be able to see the installation / setup screen for the Freeview box displayed on your TV. If you cannot see this:

A. Press the INPUT button once on your SAMSUNG remote control once. This is the button in the top-right corner of your remote control.
B. If you still cannot see the installation / setup screen, press the MENU or SETUP button on the remote control supplied with the Freeview box.

The instructions from this point forward will be different if you had to press the MENU / SETUP button on the Freeview remote before anything appeared on the TV screen. If this Freeview box has been used before the installation screen will not appear, but you will get at on-screen menu after pressing the MENU / SETUP button. If this happens, please let me know and I will provide alternative instructions for setup.

Assuming you have been able to access the installation screen, it should be easy enough to follow the instructions on screen from this point. Use the UP / DOWN / LEFT / RIGHT arrow keys on the Freeview remote to highlight the relevant options and then press OK / SELECT to choose that option.

I don't want to make this too complicated by providing alternative instructions for every possible scenario. Please run through the instructions above and make sure you are getting an installation screen or "menu/list" displayed on the TV. If you need further instructions from there, I will provide them in another message.

Built in freeview doesn't work but digibox does


Have you done a channel search on both tv sources(atv and dtv). most new tv's will automatically start will "New Install". If you havent had a digital installed recently then this could the problem. set top boxes and TV's will pick up the signal ok but others wont.

Freeview box


After scanning the box should save the channel automatically. If the box does not save the preset after scanning channels, then it is probably faulty.
Some box has a pinhole reset button at the back, if you have this reset button keep it pressed with a pencil for 10 seconds to reset the freeview box.
If it does not work, the nbox is probably faulty.

With freeview you only pay for few scrambled channels, the most of them are free and do not need any additional fee.

Freeview is not available in all areas, check that you have freeview in your location, and that aerial is well connected to the box, otherwise not finding channels is normal.

Dometic air & analog thermostat control kit


Had one doing similar recently, and after a thunder & lightning storm. Nothing worked, but kept blowing 2 amp fuse in thermostat, when anything tried, heat or cool. Pulled plastic control box down from inside upper unit (AC) made sure breaker was off, took of plastic cover and smelled inside, and could smell burnt plastic smell. Replaced, control box, that got fan only working. Tried another thermostat , everything worked as it should. Turns out the lightning, or power surge, or whatever, shorted out the thermostat, and control box at same time.

TV, freeview, DVD and video set up.


Hi.
Modern day freeview boxes rarely have A modulator in them so you can not tune it to a channel on your tv it must be connected using scart lead.
Most freeview boxes have 2 scart sockets one for VCR & one for TV plug your scart leads in to the scart sockets of freeview they will be labled TV & VCR.
The scart labled TV goes to scart socket on the TV labled AV1 or 1
The scart labled VCR goes to scart socket on VCR labled AV or IN
Now the aerial leads From wall socket to ANT in on freeview.
Then from RF out on freeview to ANT in on VCR.
Then RF out on VCR to ANT in on TV doing this will enable you to put TV on 9 to watch tapes.

The final scart will be from DVD to TV socket marked AV2

You will need to put TV on AV channel to view freeview.
To record freeview you must put VCR to EITHER line.av,aux. it will be one of those different manufacturers call them by varying names.
I have done this banking on your tv having 2 scart sockets if it only has 1 let me know & I will tell you how to wire it differently.
Please state make & model of TV set & VCR & what connections are available EG scart, Phono, Svhs etc.

Terrible thunder storm can create electrict shock to our appliances thats why we recomended that if you donot use your tv pls unplug it, and it mostly if you use outdoor antena when the thunder hit the tv will damage.

I'm hoping to get some clarification as to whether the below is correct or whether I have been taken for a ride. My LG was picked up by a repair service because it started displaying horizonal lines with the picture hazily in the background. I undertook some research and learned that in most cases of the boards needed replacing and it wasn't a panel issue (usually panel issues are associated with vertical lines). After having my TV for 5 days the repair service advised that it required a new power board and a small repair required on another board. They repaired the small repair and I was going to purchase a new power board however the TV has been returned to me dead. It now doesn't even turn on. The power/channel/indicator lights at the bottom flash on then switch off automatically. After getting consumer affairs involved, I finally received a call from the sub contractor and aside from a number of different excuses given based on my questioning of each explanation, all were contrary to the initial diagnosis discussed with me in early June. I documented the conversation which I summarise as follows: - he contacted numerous times however I never received any voicemail. I asked why - after "numerous phone calls" he didn't send a txt msg to which he replied that he's not allowed to send messages. - he initially alleged that the power board was repaired and video board needed replacing which I was quoted for. I corrected him advising that I was told and quoted for a new power board ($530) and the video board was to be repaired. He then changed his story agreeing with me and alleged that found and apparently quoted me $445 for a generic power board but I declined....Just to clarify, I never received this 2nd quote which is evidenced within the emails and messages I sent after receiving no response over a number of weeks. - he continued to claim that the TV now has panel problems and is now not repairable. - I recited the discussion the owner had with me which was consistent with the information when he provided me with the original quote of $530. He then altered his story replying that "this is a rare case... The owner doesn't know what he's saying". - When I challenged why I was quoted for a power board when he is now claiming there are panel issues, his response was that a new power board was to test if the panel was cracked!! - I replied saying that the TV was delivered to them with horizontal lines and even after testing should've been returned with horizonal lines however is now dead. - his excuse changed again advising that during testing he short circuited the TV and replacing the power board would continue to short circuit the video board..When I again questioned WHY then was i quoted for a new power board (as per the owners conversation with me) he returned back to stating that it was a rare case! - I told him about the screws missing in the back panel to which he commented that "they" wouldn't have put them back in because "they" assumed I would just dispose of the TV. What I find interesting is that this was his understanding whilst I was led to believe the TV was repaired (pending a new power board). It now makes sense as to why the driver who delivered the TV literally dropped it off and ran advising that he didn't know anything. I never received a service report and asked for it again however am yet to see it. Based on this information, can anybody shed light on what they've done to the TV? Prior to them taking the TV the horizontal lines were consistent with had a faint picture in the background and didn't alter at all. They're claiming that they did nothing and the TV - claiming that the reason why the panel doesn't turn on is because it was kept on while they were testing.
