Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a RCA VR526 recorder which is 18 years old or so.A couple of weeks ago,I began to view recorded programs, recorded just prior to this period. However, the images produced were nothing but a black screen with lots of white blinking dots with a kind of high pitch interference sound.Any programs I had recorded previous to this period on the same tape were still present for viewing and could be seen.I used 3 tapes with the same unfortunate results.I do not believe it is caused by dirty tapes.I used a brand new high quality tape about two weeks ago and it did not resolve the issue. Thank you and waiting your response.

If you have sound ,No Picture then the Heads are dirty and need to be cleaned.
You can clean head with rubbing alcohol and notebook paper Do Not Rub up and down
Clean the head in a back & forward motion, Take the paper and tear a small piece of paper ,put alcohol on paper then clean head. You can also buy Head Clean tape ,but hand cleaning is Better.

Dish changing channel to new recording while watching *pre-recorded* program

rjvdw,

Try unplugging the receiver for 10 seconds then plugging it back in, and see if the problem is resolved. The receiver should only switch if you are watching live TV instead of a recording.

If the problem persists, and you are for sure not on Live TV, the receiver may need to be replaced. If it continues you can send me an email at thomas.faust@dishnetwork.com, and I can assist you further!

Blank VHS tapes work; Movie VHS tapes don't

Hello statman_4

I have an important question; Are you watching a VHS tape you recorded of another VHS movie? In other words did You rent Ben Hur and record it and then tried to watch the recording? If you did that's your problem. VCRs in the late 1990's (1997-1999) began to employ MacroVision circuitry in all VCRs, and DTR. MacroVision Circuitry makes the VCR record tapes with MacroVision in such a way that the horizontal and vertical sync pulses are not at the proper amplitude, and the AGC (Automatic Gain Control) is tricked into over compensating thus creating the scrambled picture. There is a way around this. You need to buy a video stabilizer SIMA makes such devices and some other companies do to. You feed the signal from your VCR into the unit and it corrects the video image by readjusting the video signal.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

No picture seen or recorded - only audio

I had a similar problem with my Sony 14E in that it would not record at all - sound or pictures. Prior to that I had the lines indicating head cleaning necessary. I did this, and still nothing. I then did the following which you might try.
1. Clean the heads (I did it about 3 times in the space of a couple of hours).
2. Leave the camera tape section open (with or without the tape in) for a couple of hours and the camera in a WARM PLACE. I had condensation message prior to my problems too.
3. Put in a recorded tape and attempt to view it. Immediately I had the "dirty" lines for a few seconds then it played the recording.
AT THAT STAGE I TRIED TO RECORD - NOTHING.
Repeat Steps 1 - 3 because this seems to be about dirt and cold.
4. When step 3 is reached again! try to record. Eventually this worked for me.
I hope this helps and works for you.

My stiletto records for about 18 minutes then stops

Daylight savings time change a few months ago messed up the timer recording schedule - you must now fix it. Daylight savings time changes will always mess up this recorder. You must reset your recording schedule.

For more info on fixing, go to:

2 other remote possibilities:

If no signal is present at the time the recording is scheduled to start, the recording will be skipped.

Make sure you have followed all instructions on pp. 55-58
