Usually this is a printhead problem and the printhead will have to be replaced. You can call Brother at 1-877-BROTHER to see if they will cover the repair under a special warranty and to find the closest repair center.
I have a Brother MFC 7840W and have struggled with the wireless features. Not sure how you have this configured but if wireless suggest you find a way to connect via LAN or USB...I cannot make mine work via wireless but hardwired works fine. To fix, I had to 'reset' the MFC (functions on the MFC itself) and then reinstall the software selecting USB as the connection method. Sounds crazy but once I did it worked.
Some machines have a lock so the scan head doesn't get damaged, make sure that it is unlocked if your machine has this feature.
Does the color cartridge have ink as well, as some machines do not print if eather of the cartridges is empty.
