There is an option during the install to keep applications, files, and settings. I would suggest you go that route. I often use that when customers have a corrupt OS and it works very well.

My apple g5 question mark

Hi Ruben The ? means that the computer cannot find a valid start-up folder. You need to insert your installation CD/DVD and restart the computer. After a while it will start up from the CD.after selecting the language you wish to use, go up to the menus and find Disk utility.Run it and tell it to repair the disk.If it fails you may have to reinstall your system (do the archive & Install option)If that fails then you probably have a failed HD

Replace iMac g5 20 hard drive

Hi John
Try reinstalling via your macbook pro but this way round.Put the Leopard Disk into the Macbook and then start the Macbook in Target mode.on the iMac start it up and hold down the Option (or Alt) key then wait.after a short while you will be offered the HD in the MacBook and the DVD. Choose the DVD and see what happens.
What happens when you do it the other war arounds is that you are installing a startup system for the MacBook onto the HD of the G5 and not the system for the G5. The installer uses the firmware of the motherboard that is running the install to select the correct version.
Another issue is that the disk formatting may be wrong. it's unlikely seeing that you used disk utility from the DVD, but it is possible.
Let us know how you get on.

Have a PowerMac G5 that never gets to the 'desktop' screen. It powers up and sometimes I hear the well know Apple tone and sometimes you don't. And sometimes you get the spinning wheel and sometimes you...

Try starting with the l/h shift key down, this does some housekeeping on the HD. Failing this boot from the CD and in the utilities folder in the menu bar along the top select utilities and then disk utility and select your HD then select repair disk, after that run repair permisseins. when done, can take a while, go to start up disk and select your HD and restart.

Comes on but wont boot up... white apple screen comes up with the loading showing then all the fans come on...

insert your mac OS in the drive and restart with the C key held down. Then when you reach the desktop, instead of reinstalling the system OS, look for the utilties menu and launch the disk utility .. repair as needed and then reboot with the option key held down. choose the mac os drive and let it re launch

Install printer HP PSC1510 All-in-One to my computer

First of all you need the drivers and the associated software - you can get them from here
Download (as in Save, not Run) in this order: Full feature driver , patch , Utilities. Once you have them on your pc burn them to a disk for backup.
Next power up the printer and connect to it (and only to it) the USB cable.
Finally launch the installer for the driver and follow the instructions that will appear. Once that is finished launch the installer for the patch followed by the one for the utilities.

How to install an internal hard drive (1.5 tb) on a ppc g5

there are actually extra spaces for internal drives with the proper connectors for the ribbon cable and the power cable.
Just open the side of the G5, and double check your connectors prior to purchase to be sure you get the proper type. You can connect it to the available connectors on the existing ribbon and power cable... Then boot it up and simply do a disk utilities mount and format of your drive and you're good to go.

The computer comes on but is frozen on Apple screen

I would try pressing f2 or f8 when first boots up, then change bios settings from first bootup device as cd rom drive, then hard disc as second drive, then place windows disc or recovery disc in pc, then reboot. and reinstall your software.

Can't locate the dirve in Target Disk Mode

You are going to need a system install disk for this machine if you want to reinstall it. However, if you just want to run diagnostics, any system install disk for MacOSX should do the trick. You just won't be able to run the installer once you boot from the DVD. The first thing I would do is make sure the eBay seller sold this to you in this condition and without the install disc, because if not, you've got an issue with them.

If you don't have an install disc, your cheapest solution is to call Apple and order a replacement disc for your model computer. You will need your serial number, which you can find on the sticker on your computer. Good luck, and let me know if you need more guidance with this.

No power to 12 volt, Hard drive, or Disk drives.

Retrace your steps there may be a loose wire(s). Have you checked and rechecked your pinouts? maybe one of the wires is backwards. Hate when that happens. It could be bad out of box. Try unhooking everything then one by one rehook your components. Maybe by terrible coinsidence a part fried and is preventing the machine from booting. Make sure your CPU fan is plugged in. I am installing a new motherboard now and those are the pitfalls I keep track of.
