Question about Canon Cameras

This is almost certainly a CCD image sensor problem. The PowerShot A70 has a Product Advisory on this very issue and if you are indeed experiencing it, Canon will repair the camera at no charge regardless of how long you've owned the camera.
If the LCD screen shows this distortion in all shooting modes, yet you can see the menu (press the MENU button) just fine and/or any images taken previous to the malfunction without distortion then you've got it!
Call Canon Tech Support at 1-800-828-4040 (M-F; 8 am - midnight EST) and tell them you think you might have the CCD Image Sensor issue and they will take care of it.
