Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Please can someone tell me details about the pump motor on the WFB 2005 AU It has a 220-240W 50Hz 30w 0.2A spec. and looks like what i would call an inductoin motor. The electro-mag field magnets are semi exposed and fit closely around the plastic housing for the rotor; the rotor spins inside this housing with a small clearance (about 1.5mm). There are no electrics exposed in or around the motor I have the motor apart and have re-bushed the bearings; but the rotor chamber appeared to have been wet inside. Nothing had failed totally yet!!! QUESTION: Is the rotor chamber supposed to run wet or dry? QUESTION: Does the small washerlike seal between the rotor and impeller need to be perfect or not so?

Yes the washing machine is about 10yrs old, it is a Bosch WFB 2005 AU (The AU is just their code for Australian, that is 240Volts) ; it is a front loader.

I am repairing the pump because it was noisy; the impeller and the rotor shaft were loose ( about 1.5mm or -). Too much!! I like fixing things. Also i am not wanting to pay say $175 all up for another pump for what is an old machine. It did pump ok, perhaps 75% compared to new.

The machine is Australian, I am NZ. I like fixing things, the pump was noisy, and perhaps working at only 75% efficiency. I am not wanting to spend $175 all up for a new pump, for what is really an old machine.

Thank Luisa, I understand your response and shall now endeavour to find a suitable seal.

Hi just been thinking about your machine .The pump you are describing is a synchronous pump.If you are in Australia as your model number suggests then the generic pumps for your machine are quite cheap.Sorry to ask you this but why are you repairing the pump?Is it not pumping properly? Please reply with additional information and I am sure I can help you rectify this fault.Looking forward to your reply.

Hi just read your last posting. Now on the questions asked the rotor chamber usually should run dry.The rubber seal around the shaft is supposed to be nearly perfect. The problem with these pumps is they sometimes develop an intermittent fault of working then next wash they don"t work until the impeller is manually shifted to another position. Hope this was helpful and please reply for further information or advice.Good luck.

Why won't the windshield washer motor and fluid pump work on my 2005 Magnum SE? Turn signals work fine, but no washers. #18 fuse is good, too. Please help

could be the washer motor. have someone hit the switch while you listen at the pump to see if it is making noise. also check to see if you have voltage at pump. it could be stuck or corroded.
