In the past I have successfully downloaded photos from my Olympus FE-280 digital camera. However I cannot download photos now. When I connect the camera to my laptop via the USB, the camera display lights up and allows me to select PC. Once selected, the camera LED flashes as if it is downloading photos to my laptop...however the photos are not downloaded. I have Windows Vista.
Connect Olympus camera to laptop with USB cable provided, turn the camera on and open "Computer" in Window explorer or Computer. You should see the new removable disk, click on it and you will probably see one subdirectory and one sub-sub drectory, something like 100OLYMP, open it up and you should see jpg files in your camera. The light will blink for some time and then stop. You should then be able to select the files and transfer them to your folder on the hard drive.
When you first turn on the camera you could check to see in Device Manager, under Portable Devices, if your camera is recognized and whether everything is OK with your driver.
If you have a card reader you can also try to read the card from the laptop.

The FE-280 will not deface your photos by scrawling digits across them. However, the data is stored with each file. Just about any photo viewer should be able to show you this data. Depending on the program and printer, you can print the date on the image, in the margins, or on the back. Refer to the documentation for whatever program you're using to print. If you print directly from the camera, the instructions are in the "Printing pictures" section of the Advanced Manual (page 29 in my copy).
If you go to the manufacturers site and look under "Support" you'll be able to download all software and drivers for this camera. You will also have the opportunity to update the firmware. Thank you, Dana
By default Olympus cameras do not print the date on the images when they are downloaded to a PC. Olympus does not include this functionality because they feel that it detracts from image quality. There is a function of the camera called print order that you can set that it will print the date on the images but this is only if you take the card to a photo processing store. However if you use the Olympus Master software and print the images that you have previously transferred there is a check box in the print setting window that you can add the date and or time to the printed image.
This camera is not capable to shoot images in black and white as this is not a menu selectable feature of this camera. You can take the image in color and then download it to your computer and then using photo editing software change the image to black and white or monotone using the edit function in that photo editing program.
This camera does not have the capability to shoot images in black and white. What you need to do is to take the images in color, download them to computer and then use photo editing software to then be in black and white. Most software applications have that as an editing option.
I am on vacation and forgot my cd to be able to download pictures from the camera; FE- 280, to my pc notebook, that's a toshiba satellite with home vista. Is there a way I can download these pictures to my notebook without the software that I forgot to bring with me. It's not loaded on my notebook. Thanks. email@example.com
