Question about Electrolux Washing Machines

1 Answer

Electrolux EWF1087 washing machine that starts for about 1/2 a second and then stops. The timer still counts down but nothing happens. Did come up with an E53 fault once but nothing since.

Can you tell me what the RPS sensor is as I have had a tech here and he replaced the main control electronic and the machine still did the same thing. Maybe I can order the thing myself and replace it if I know what it is and what it does

  • shanevn Oct 13, 2010

Sorry, I think you may be talking about a different machine. My machine is a front loader and has a motor that drives the drum with a belt at the rear of the machine. Underneath there is only the drive motor mounted there.

I am not sure where to look for this as my machine is front loader and it sounds like you are describing a top loading machine. My machine has a motor that drives the drum via a drive belt. the motor is mounted under the drum and there is no shaft or rotor below the drum.
Would this still be the same fault or something else in front loading machine?

I don't know if the solution suggested will work but I will give it a try.

Hi, you most likely are getting a "RPS Sensor Fault"
When the motor rotor position sensor fails, it will act exactly like you describe. Many techs incorrectly replace the machine control or the water inlet valve(s). The RPS sensor is much cheaper. If you consult the tech sheet, you will see the fault code for RPS failure and I would bet the farm that the sequence of LEDs displayed if it does when your washer faults out matches exactly with the RPS fault code.

Hi, it is a small sensor mounted down by the stator assembly.

    To get at it:
Look at the large, round rotor assembly on the very bottom of the macine- there will be a plastic "nut" that unscrews, and as the nut comes out, the rotor will want to drop down. Support it with your hands. Once that rotor comes off, you will see the stator assembly. Handle this with care, you don't want to damage it.
There are two wire harnesses towars the back, unclip them from the clip on the tub before the next step-You will see 4 3/8 size bolts in a metal ring in the center of that stator, where the splined shaft is, this is what is holding that stator to the tub. Undo those screws and the ring comes off (there will be red grease also, have some rags handy) and then you can gently bring the motor stator down and remove the brown plastic "cover". The RPS sensor is over on the side near the wires. Undo the wire connector (it just lifts off) There is a small clip that holds the sensor in place on the underside. You need to take your finger and release the clip and then the sensor slides up and out. Make note of the ARROWS you will see on both the sensor and the stator. When replacing the sensor, those arrows have to line up.

I think you should call in the tech to ONLY help you get it out and you can then replace it yourself...

It is he same fault irrespective of whether it's a front loader or a top loader. Get the tech man to bring out the RPS sensor..

Hi my Electrolux EWF1074 isn't working. The timer is counting down but there is no water in the machine. I tried resetting it but it didn't work. Could someone please help me. Regards Matt.

Rapid reading of alarms:

Press the START/PAUSE button and the nearest option button (4) simultaneously for at least 2 seconds: the LEDs initially switch off, and then display the flashing sequence indicating the last alarm.

ewf1074-2rgnvy5j4oifscmshudmmeh4-3-0.jpg After reading error code (look display) will be a lot clearer in which phase of the washing cycle has occurred or is happening malfunction.

New washing machine (electronic) compared to the old models (electromechanical) consume much less water, so it looks that your washing machine is working properly, otherwise it would be stopped. This will be confirmed if the display show E00 which means there is no any malfunction. Any other error code, for exp. E10,E20,E30, E40, E50...... means some malfunction.

Electrolux washer playing up!

Remove the top panel, there should only be 2 or 3 screws on the back of the panel, then slide the top panel back about 1/4 inch and it should lift off. Look to see if the belt has come off. Post your results back.

1. The Maytag sevice centers, if close, are "great". You describe the problem and they supply the part. If far still give them a call.

2. The problem is probably the control. It's a simple fix. Just replace the part. And you can order the part from the service center. Takes 10 minutes.
