Question about Mitsubishi WD-Y57 57" Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Mitsubishi wd-y577 blinking green timer light doesnt stop blinking ever. Replaced all caps on pcb and dmb. Unplugged dvi board and still flashing. When power is pressed after aural response that bulb is warm with a slight click the bulb glows and light engine fan spins by visual inspection after removing back panel. I can hear the color wheel whirling, but no picture or sound. Reset will show a very slight amount of light to the screen for 200-300 milliseconds but no other response is noticed. The set will stay on with no pic or sound until I reset or unplug, so I cant get a diagnostic code by holding input/menu for 10 seconds. Reset will however sound what I believe is the color wheel spinning down which sounds like a 200 ton bunker buster dropping from the point of sound of a Navy navigator wearing frayed headphones, or a bomb dropping on tv with sound at 3-5 decibles. The sound resembles the sound of the air whistling past the guide fins, not the detonation. I am completely stumped.

It's possible that you have a fried diode on the secondary side of one of the power supply transformers. Look for one that reads like a wire on an ohmmeter. Note that some diodes come in TO-220 packages so they look like plastic power transistors. (Don't be fooled by capacitor bleeder resistors - if present, these are in the tens to hundreds of ohms, so this is what you will read instead of the diode if the diode is good.) The whistling noise could be a switching power supply transformer with an overload as a result of the diode, although the primary-side power controller circuit should shut down immediately before letting that happen. It could also be coming from the speakers - that would be a hint to check the power supplies feeding the audio circuits.

If after that you are sure all of the internal cables are connected, especially to the light engine, it's time to start checking voltages and waveforms, beginning with the power supply. You apparently have power to the bulb and color wheel, and probably to some of the control circuits, but that of course is not all of the set. Most sets have some fine print on the power supply circuit board telling you what the voltage outputs are supposed to be.

Replaced the bulb and tried to turn tv on and a have a green blinking light that came on nothing else. Please help

Thas a very common problem for that model which happens when the power cord is unplugged. Failed caps on the DM and the Power boards wont re-charge when power is restored and the timer light blinks non stop. The V26 Chassis DLP DM / Power repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com will usually repair that issue. The kit contains the capacitors and the CD with repair instructions.

I turned on the TV but just got a black screen but could hear audio just fine. Turned the set off and unplugged it. When I plugged it back in the green timer light started flashing and would not stop...

Nonstop blinking is likely a DM or format board - format board most likely. I have rebuilt several of these by simply replacing all the caps, about 70 of them, and takes about two hours start to finish... But this set does need to boot. It takes about 70 seconds of flashing green light before you're able to press the power button - even when everthing is working as it should..
Hope this helps!

The Power/Timer light SHOULD stay green on a normal working TV. It sounds like the main board is either defective or has a connection problem to ??? (power supply, etc). All fans should be turning (a hint of missing power). Check ALL cables...be thorough.

SYMPTOM: Power LED does not stop blinking after plug in.

steady blinking is the DM failing to complete the boot sequence. Your more than likely needing the DM repair kit.

Mitsubishi wd-52628 flashing green timer light

If the power/timer led is the one blinking constantly
the most likely problem is two 3300 mfd caps and 1 to 8 1000mfd caps on the power board.
could be the DM board or caps on it as well.
