Question about Philips DivX Ultra HTS6500/37 Theater System

1 Answer

I have a Philips HTS 6500 HTIB receiver. It started to show a "No disk" message when trying to play dvds. It seems like a common problem for this device. I have some experience with electronics but I am not a technitian. I found in this place a recommendation to disassembly the dvd unit (which is internal and slot loading) to clean the lens directly. The units is beyond warranty so I did it but when reasembling the unit, it seems that I have not done it right with the slot loading mechanism itself. Now there are two plastic pins in front of the slot so I cannot load any disk. The help that I need is how to reassembly the drive correctly, I want to know what I did wrong and correct it. I can take and provide pics of current state if required.

First, I commend you for taking the initiative and tackling this yourself. Every device that loads through a slot has a device that prevents a disk from being loaded when there is already a disk loaded. This is the device (the two pins) that you are describing. What you need to do is disassemble the unit again and while reassemling check at each step to make sure the pins are out of the way (usually down).

The pins are usually connected to the loading mechanism itself by gears, so it may be necessary to manually turn a gear or belt (very gently!) to get the mechanism to a position to accept a disk. Most likely this won't work by itself, but it might. If it doesn't, then separate the pin mechanism from the loading mechanism, get the loading mechanism into a position to accept a disk. That is, not in the position where the disk is being "read" by the machine, and put the two mechanisms back together, of course with the pins out of the way, and try it out. It may take a time or two to get the gears in just the right position to work right, but you seem to have the ability.

I hope this helps. If not, please post what happens, and i'll do what ever else I can to help.

Testimonial: "I reassembled the unit and now it works fine! What I had to do was to turn on the unit (while open) and the pins moved to its location. Thanks."

Phillips 6500 home theater system

Turn the power off, and then unplug the home theater from the wall outlet. Plug it back in after about 30 seconds, and turn it back on. If it still won't eject, then the HTS needs repair. Philips will replace it if it is still in warranty.

Philips HTS 6500 not reading my DVD's

I bought this item in Nov. of '07 and it worked great...for about 3 months then the dreaded no disc message appeared and has ruined my life. Howvever after not using this DVD player for a month or so i had decided to tinker with it to try and get it to work and it appears i have found a solution that is working for me so far. After being fed up with Philips and trying their "solutions" because as we all know the U.S. sells DVD's with the wrong region code (ha funny Philips people) i began trying to make this stupid peice of garbage work in any way. What i came up with is this: 1.) insert your DVD and wait to see what happens. When you get the no disc readings this is what you do. 2) Eject the dvd but do not touch it 3). While the dvd is sitting in the slot press and hold down the play button on the remote control and continue to hold it down 4) it may take awhile but give it a chance, and hopefully the DVD will "resume play" and start anew. If holding the play button down does nothing then try holding it and releasing it in intervals until something happens. If nothing ever happens then i guess you SOL. I know this is not an desired fix to the problem but so far it has worked for me. I noticed this because the stupid thing will would read a cd and this got me thinking. This way is kind of a jump start to get the dvd going....hope this helps someone

Remote stops working

Both remotes are operating on the same frequency - usually you would think that having two products of same manufacturer would be a good idea, but in this case, the remotes interfere with each other.

Philips hts 6510 no disk prompt does not play dvd

Ok looks llike a lens problem..Try this
Get a lens cleaner CD with liquid..Put two drops of liquid on the brush of the lens cleaner..insert the CD in your drive and play it..If it plays fine otherwise you will need to replace the lens..Get it replaced rather..should run you about 25-50$.If you want to get it repaired give it for repair only in a Philips showroom..
Good luck!
