I changed the UAC settings to "Never Notify". Is it right? Then I right clicked on the installation file and then on Properties and then on Compatibility. I checked "Execute in compatibility mode" and "Execute as administrator". It didn't work out. The installation failed.

Then I right clicked on the installation file and then on "Solve compatibility problems" then on "Solve program troubles". I checked "The program used to work out in prior Windows versions but not now". I choosed the option "Windows XP (SP 3)" and pressed the button "Begin the program" and then "Next". It didn't work out as well. The installation failed again.

So now I ask you to guide me further or refund me.

Please include this text in your answer.

I have followed all your instructions, step by step, but it hasn't worked out yet. I called the store where I bought FA-127 program and they told me that it will never run in a 64-bit system, as mine. Do you agree?

  • Celso Mitidieri Oct 16, 2010

Dear Bob, please send me back the text of my last comment to you through this chanel. Concerning to your doubt, I can't install the data application FA-127 because the system informs, in the very begining of file runing, that it is incompatible with my Windows version. I don't believe it should install any driver, but I actually don't know. I have tried the XLink/Win you suggested me, but it didn't work out. There was a conflict with the serial port of my SMS Nobreak. Else, I prefer FA-127 interface. I wish to send you FA-127 installer, as you suggested, but please teach me how.

  • Celso Mitidieri Oct 18, 2010

Bob, I have already sent FA-127 to your Hotmail address. Please confirm the receiving. Celso.

  • Celso Mitidieri Oct 18, 2010

After I installed XLink/Win, suggested by you, that presented communication port incompatibility, UPSilon (software for monitoring SMS nobreak) began to fail. The Nobreak has serial port cummunication too. If I uninstall and reinstall, it works well again, but everytime I enter the system, it fails again. Please help me.

  • Celso Mitidieri Oct 19, 2010

Bob, please check your hotmail account. I've sent you a link to Rapid Share. Thanks. Celso.

  • Celso Mitidieri Oct 21, 2010

Beyond Rapid Share, I've been successful in sending the program compressed by Winrar to your hotmail account. It wasn't working with a zip file, I don't know why. Please let me know if you have got it and if you are working on it. Thanks. Celso.

Bob, where are you? Please let me know if you have received the program FA-127 I've sent to you. Thanks. Celso.

Install the application in COMPATIBILITY mode

you may also have to lower the UAC to re-install the app too.

This can be done from the control panel, user accounts, then Change User Account Control Settings.
I turn mine off to install older apps and tend to leave it off for my account but leave others alone.

Also you should highlight the actuall install section of the app you want to install with the right mouse button and select PROPERTIES and then select COMPATIBILITY and tell it ro run in maybe wondows XP service pack 2 or 3 and apply the change then install.

Only had a couple of real old apps fail so far and believe me I have installed quite a few

With the UAC turned down the app may still fail installaion but should show a dialog box that asks if you want to re-install using the reccomended settings. At this point say YES and let it re-install once again.

That is the bit that usually gets an old app going again.

Its a slightly older sharp device you have but I have an even older palm and a psion running just fine so I dont see much of an issue for you with a slightly more modern device.

Mostly correct but you need to set the installation program inot compatibility mode not just run as ADMIN.

use the windows explorer to navigate to the program ou need to intstall.

Usually on a CD and in a lot of cases called setup.exe or autorun.exe or install.exe (should be an EXE file not and INF file !

Just highlight that with a right click and select PROPERTIES.

From there select the XP mode with eithr SP2 or SP3 (start with SP2)

Dont forget to click APPLY then OK

What I usually do from here is my own preference but I then close explorer and then RE-OPEN it and navigate back to the program I just set the mode for and then install.

Dont ask me why but it seems to work better and nobody at MS could explain it ?!?

Oh and sorry for the way this comment gets squished its not my fault. We have bugged FixYa to sort out the format issue in here.

You didnt mention it was 64bit but having said that I also use 64 bit on some of the computers here and have not had that issue.

Windows 7 CAN and DOES work with 32bit (x86) programs and you will find that when you install older programs windows 7 automatically puts them in a special "Program Files (x86)" folder.

If you want and the program is small enough to email you could send it as a compressed file to me and I will work out the exact details at this end.

Just to be clear is it the DRIVER or the data application you are actually having issues with ?

If it is just the driver there are other metods for installing those.

In addition there may also be another package that also works well with the casios. It is rather old but IIRK it was called "winlink" and worked with a large variety of small data devices.

Will see if I can dig up anything else as its a long time since I used that.

Last update was this year and I had the name wrong but hey it is well worth a shot for you.

You may have to try a few configurations as I pulled an older "sharp" out of retirement that was not listed but did find a configuration that actually worked !

Not sure of the limitations of the trial package but I managed to push some stuff up to my sharp with no warnings and pull it all back too !

Time to put my sharp back with my vintage ZX80.

We are not geerally allowed to pass emails but I think in this instance it should be OK

What you need to do is to compress the installation from tthe setup disk and then email me it as an ATTACHMENT

    you can send it to

I will let you know when I get it.

Will also see if I can find a copy myself but your verion may be different which is why i would like you to send it.

I did not revieve the software from you or any email at all so maybe check the spelling. it is an underscore cahracter between bob and computers not a space or dash

Howeve I notice you seem to say youalmost have the other program working.

Thats great news and I would concentrate maybe on the serial port settings as your device will inly work at slower baud rates (9600 max i think)

Check the instructions for your device to ensure the serial port seting match and make sure you click APPLY and not just OK

You certainly seem to be a step closer to getting it working.

BOSS SF-4600C still works but top & bottom have come apart. No way to back-up.

What do I need to communicate between my Casio digital diary and my PC?

Most Casio Digital Diary models have a small 2.5mm serial port built into the side of the unit. It can be used to communicate between two Casio Digital Diary units, or with another serial device such as a PC (or a serial printer on some older models).

To connect between two compatible Digital Diary units, you need only a 3-lead crossover cable with a 2.5mm plug on each end, such as Casio's SB-60 or SB-62 cable. You can buy these cables from a Casio accessory supplier such as Windows Link.

To connect to a standard 9 or 25-pin RS232 PC serial port, you need a special Casio-specific adapter cable (more information below). The Casio diary uses its own unique communications protocol, and requires a Casio diary backup program on the PC. You can build your own cable or buy one by mail order, and use it with shareware software such as XLink/Win, or you can buy a kit complete with cable and software such as those sold by Casio or Windows Link

For more information on serial cables, see Cables. For more information on software and kits see What communications packages are available for the Casio digital diary?
