HP Photosmart C4380 All-in-One printer

My printer won't work wirelessly or even when I connect my computer to the printer manually. The documents are there in the print queue but nothing prints.
The printer icon on my computer flashes between disconnected and connected, but even if I ask it to print when its showing connected, nothing happens.

Help please?

With Vista Home Premium the printer is not recognised when disconnecting USB cable to run wirelessly. Do not buy this printer.

my hp photosmart printer won't print

  • akroneman Oct 23, 2008

I just bought the HP Photosmart C4380 and it won't print wireless.

When I print a testpage wireless it works perfectly and a wireless test report says that everything is oké and it scans wireless as well but printing from a document or photo won't work.

The document stays in the printerque and that's all.

Check the ports first.. make sure that the printer is set as default ( make sure it has the green tick and the status "ready" or "online" on the printer icon in the printers&faxes. and if u want to connect it wirelessly, you have to install it as usb first before changing to wireless........

Cannot find the driver for my wireless hp c4380 photosmart printer. cannot scan..frustarated

See my published guide entitled How to Install the latest drivers for Hewlett Packard Printer!!!

They may have the drivers for your printer.
Although if I am not mistaken if you disconnect your printer from the computer and the printer is on you should be able to scan documents and print them. All without the need for a computer.
That would be to copy a document.
On the other hard maybe you want to scan to a file onto your computer, yes I think that is what you want to do. Yes you are quite correct, you will need to install the drivers for the printer.

Try and use the USB connection if you are having problem with wireless, it some-times gives problems.

Take care!

try reset printer network settings and test again, and check for any high power electronics, nearby printer. because the magnectic fied is a wireless wall that reduces wireless signal.

I cannot get my printer to print, I am sending a word document to my wireless HP C4380, it is switched on but nothing is coming through and the document is still in the printing queue, help!

You need to check for any queued documents,if they are there,if yes, delete them,if not go ahead and unintsall the printer drivers from the control panel>printers and faxes and then restart your computer and then try a plug and play if its a USB printer or if its a network printer check for the ip address on the printer as well as the computer, they shuld be the same on both or it will not work, you need to reinstall the network drivers again ,this should resolve your concern.

Can my HP Photosmart C4380 support Microsoft Office Professional 2007 Fax and Scan? Or must the HP fax and scan only be used?

Sorry, Fax and Scan is part of Windows Vista not MS Office. I have been advised by PC World team that this printer (HP Photosmart C4380) does not have the necessary drivers to support Vista Fax and Scan wirelessly and can only operate with the HP Fax and Scan which is very basic and only seems to function via USB cable, not wirelessly. Update drivers may become available.

Trying to instal photosmart C4380 all in one wirelessly on toshiba L40-17M from supplied disc installed printer ok first time but scanner not recognised, scan button says computer connected but computer...

Photosmart C4380: good hardware, appalling software. Shameful that it's on the market at all.

WIRELESS PROBLEM

You have to install the printer as USB first. Then, once it's all installed, load up the CD again and 'Add device', choosing the wireless option. It's crucial that you leave your USB cable in the whole time. Take it out right at the end. Once you've added a device, you'll have two printers installed. One will be called 'Copy 1' - that's the wireless one. It should all work okay, and you can delete the USB one.

SCAN PROBLEM AND ERROR MESSAGES

When I did this everything seemed to work fine. BUT - after a wee while the software started playing up. The scan function didn't work at all, HP was depositing all sorts of bugs all over my computer, I had error messages coming up at shutdown, all sorts of gremlins.

So this is what I did.

I totally uninstalled all HP software.

I downloaded the updated Photosmart Basic Drivers from the HP website. They are here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=3221646&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&submit.y=11&submit.x=9&lang=en&cc=us

Once you've downloaded the file and run it, the new drivers will be installed but NO SOFTWARE. Again, you have to do the whole setting it up as USB and then leaving the cable in and adding the device wirelessly. But if you do this with the HP drivers and ignore the installation CD, then everything should work perfectly.

Of course this means no HP software at all. But who needs it? I use Microsoft's scanning software, which is fine, and it has no problem printing.

Basically HP's software is BLOATWARE that doesn't even work. It screws up your computer.

Good luck!!
