The knob just spins round and doesn't catch. It received a bash and it now won't accept a wash cycle. Any thoughts?

It seems that the timer has failed and needs a replacement. If this seems to turn around without clicking and if there is no action when the program cycle is initiated, this seems a failure of the timer controller unit. This happens in cases when it is turned around in reverse order or violently.

I have a Kenmore washer model 110-20712991. the timer doesn't advance. Wherever I put it, it stays there and only does that functions, never advancing to the next position. Is there any test i can perform...

It does sound like a bad timer:

See the following: This is a Whirlpool / Kenmore Service Manual for top load, direct drive washers. It has testing instructions as well as directions for removing each of the two types of timers.

If your timer is the one with a knob that un-screws, use a thin needle nosed pliers to hold the shaft going thru the timer while you un-screw the knob.

Kenmore model 110.24642300 will not cycle through wash cycles...will stay stuck in wash cycle until the knob is manually turned to rinse/spint/etc. Would this be a bad knob or timer or both? Thanks!

Start a cycle and remove the knob. If it still stays in agitation mode and won't advance to the spin, then you have a bad timer, or no power to the timer motor(very unlikely). If your washer goes through the cycles with the knob off then you have a bad timer knob. I have seen stripped knobs causing the timer to bind up and not advance. Good Luck Appliance Specialists

My Simpson Riviera 966 wont complete wash cycle, whats wrong with it ?

1) timer- it stays wherever you leave it and does that action.
2) No fill -cold- for rinse
3) No pump out
4) Syphoning- where is your drain hose ?
5) Set to " no spin" drip dry" -- reset control
6) Lid switch - not engaging

Machine don't fill & Control knob don't advance automatically

Every machine is wired differently. It's possible but not likely that it has a fuse in the circuitry. My guess is that the level sensing tube is blocked and the washer thinks it is at the preset level, ior that the sensing tube has a leak in it. Similar to a hole in a straw. The washer can not advance and operate in automatic if its preset is not satisfied. The preset here is wherever you or it sets the level. Once thw washer fills then a contact closes and turns the timer motor on and advances the timer.

Dryer not heating up

If the timer knob does not turn in a clockwise direction, then chances are the timer is bad.

Heating is a different issue, although, if the timer knob will not turn, then it may not be at a position that turns the heat on.

Replace the timer, then check the heating. If the heater then works, then the problem was in the timer. If it doesn't, then we need to look at problems within the heater circuit.

Reply back what you find out.

Freezer door not sealing

Probably a defective defrost timer. Try to find the timer. It is usually underneat in the back. When you find it turn the knob slowly click by click. (You may need a screwdriver or knife) turn just until the compressor stops. Let it stay in defrost for about 1/2 hour. turn the knob until the compressor starts let it cool down several hours. Then do it again. If this solves the problem replace the timer. While you are waiting to do this Defrost it at least twice a day by turning the knob.
