Microwave stops after about 2 seconds, also have to reset the clock each time

About half the time the oven stops after about 2 seconds. The clock also resets to 12:00 so we set the clock. Sometimes it works fine for a couple days and sometimes the problem will happen several times in a row.

I am facing the similar problem with my Panasonic NN-C781JF model. About 15 days back the oven would not start on pressing the start button. But, after two days it started working perfectly fine. It happened again after two three days. I checked all the switches ( there are three micro switches) which gets actuated by closing / opening the door of microwave oven. One of the s/w was not perfectly OK. I cleaned the contacts and made it OK. But the oven did not start. Just like that it started working again. This became a totally unpredictable when it would work when not. But now the problem is compounded. It mat start but shall shutoff before the preset time. If I set time for 10 seconds it is on for 2 seconds and then display 1 before the display goes blank.

Any solutions / suggestions – thank you

You have a bad magnetron. We see this over and over.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

You'll save a lot by taking it in yourself.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

The door switch you suspected is bad, and it must be replaced. They normally cannot be cleaned or burnished and be reliable.

The microwave stops after a few seconds. It starts, but stops before the set time is completed. The oven is five years old.

Does the oven's key pad seem to reset like a breaker flipped inside? And after, you have to reset the clock? If so, check the temperature cutoff switches inside. Jumper across them and see if your microwave starts working correctly. I had this problem and the Bottom TCO was defective.

Reset clock, ge spacemaker xl1800 times out after 2-3 seconds

There's a simple fix for this. Unplug the unit. Take off the top grill with 2 screws. Remove the 1 screw that holds the touch pad unit. Lift up on touchpad unit and lift out. Put a piece of aluminum foil inside a large zip lock bag and tape it to the back of the touchpad unit and reassemble. GE put the magnetron to close to the control board causing stray microwaves to interfere with the board. The foil shields it.

Microwave stops after about 2 seconds, also have to reset the clock each time

Sadly, we hear of this over and over.

This is due to a defective or loose magnetron causing electrical interference and disruption in the control circuit board.

If your magnetron was recently replaced, it may have loose mounting nuts or bolts or maybe the wire mesh RF gasket was not installed or got pinched.

It may also need a new high-voltage diode and stirrer, and the cavity may be affected.

Details are in their bulletin here. Even if your model is not on the list, the same problem can occur, requiring a kit. The parts kit is similar to this one.

(Your model may use a different kit - this is shown for illustration purposes only).

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

They may even send you a replacement magnetron. GE Customer Service is here.

Good luck.

How do i set clock for time of day

You can download your owner's manual free here.

From the manual:

SETTING THE CLOCK - When the microwave oven is plugged into an outlet, the oven will display " 0:00 "

1. Press the CLOCK button; the hour digit will blink
and the clock indicator will light.

2. Press the number keys to set current hour.

3. Press the number keys to set current minute.

4. Press AM/PM to choose AM or PM.

5. Press the CLOCK button again; the display will
show the present time. After the clock has been
set, the time will appear with blinking colon,
unless the oven is cooking or defrosting.

NOTES:

- To reset the present time in the display window when the oven is off, press the CLOCK button and
reset.

- If you make a mistake when setting the time, press the STOP/CLEAR button.

- To recall the actual time while the oven is cooking or defrosting, simply press the CLOCK button
and the display will show the actual time for three seconds.

The microwave starts, then stops 2 seconds later

I tried a solution posted on another posting http://www.fixya.com/support/t242480-stops_cooking by placing the conductive plastic behind the control panel and it worked.

WHEN PRESSING COOK TIME OVEN CLICKS ON FOR ONE SECOND AND RESETS CLOCK

Please try on some other power point as if there is loose contact or sparking in point which cause to switch off as soon as you start because of heavy current drawn by oven and clock also resets. If not solved even then must have some short circuit or over loading in timer circuit or magnetron. in this case you have to call for a service engineer.
