Question about Fisher Paykel EcoSmart GWL15

2 Answers

This Fisher & Paykel GWL15 washer began making strange noises this week. When the water is pumping out, a loud, moaning or grinding sound is made. It also makes the sound after a few minutes at the beginning of the initial fill. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Same thing happened to mine. There's a really simple solution: Lay the unit on it's back or lean it far enough back to have access. The pump is near the front and has a black fan blade on the bottom. Remove the electrical plug on the motor; it just pulls right off. Now look for a white plastic retaining lever near the top of the pump. Hold it out and turn the pump about 1/8 turn counter-clockwise, then it almost falls out. I found a safety pin inside that was causing my noise. Went back together just as easily. Problem solved!!!

Thanks! I tried that and got 'er going again. And would you believe that after I cleaned it, put it back together, and ran an empty run, there was an open safety pin and wad of lint in the bottom of the tub? Really!! Thanks

Do you know where I can get a Troubleshooting guide and/or Error Code List for the GWL15 US?

  • spreadeagle Apr 25, 2011

I don't have any special access to that info. But, I did a google search, and there are a lot of posts out there about this washer. Everything from how to get the error codes from the washer to what they mean. If you need some more help, send me some more info including your error code and a description of the problem and I will try to help.

It could be the pump that has blown the fuse on the board,
Was the pump making loud noise at the time when it died.
if so replace pump and fuse.

More likely to be the pump. Right after it lets water in it recirculates the water. To find out start the cycle. When you hear the noise, disconnect the wires going to the pump and see if it stops. The pump is on the bottom. To get to it just tip the machine back.

Hi Dale..
It sounds like you have a leaky inlet valve assembly. The part number is 421029P and is easy to replace. You can get one here:

Fisher-Paykel washer pump noise & some water left in tub

Lube the brass bearings on the motor. For some reason the bearing on the bottom nearest to the cooling fan will start to whine. I would guess because it's kicking dust up around the unit. I used a lube that will hold in place. Lube between the bracket that holds the motor together and by the fan. The noise should stop. I also suggest you lube the top bearing as well. The lube I recommend is a Silicone paste type.

Washing machine makes buzzing noise

Check the water pump for an obstruction in the chamber area, your pump may be sticking and that will cause the buzzing sound. The water pump runs during the fill portion of the cycle on several of the selected wash cycles to recirculate the water.
